LeeMar starfire 290 mixed reef build

Score pick ups Kris. The mystery coral looks like the green and purple stylo from Neptunes also. LMK if you need another frag of the green w/blue tips tenuous if the other one doesn't make it (should be okay though).

Frag tank....

Frag tank....

Finally got all the tanks out of the room. Now just the big guy. Decided to turn the nook / closet into a tank equipment storage space as well as a frag tank. I had TAP plastics cut and route my Acrylic and glued it together this afternoon.

Tank is 28" x 14.5" x 10". I used 3/8" acryclic to keep it from bowing (hopefully). I am using my old 4x24" T5 light. The seems didn't come out perfect, so I will leak test tomorrow and put some weld on wherever it might leak.

The closet looks great, and will come in handy for sure. My partner wants to put doors on it, but I like it open. Watta ya think?

I like it. Doors might be nice though so you don't have all that extra light pouring into the room. Though since it's replacing other tanks who's lights did the same thing, you may not notice.

Yeah, the doors would definately keep the room a bit more clean looking. The light issue is also a good point. Thanks.

Took some pics of the fuge........

WOW, I don't post much here, but your tank is a little slice of the ocean. Just beautiful. I have two requests (if you don't mind). First, how tall is the stand on the 300g? and second...would you take the time to post a video of the fuge? From the pics, I'd love to see more.

Nice Lion.

Thanks! He is a baby. Had him about 4-5 months, and just finally got him eating frozen foods. He LOVES the fuge! Got a mellow current and plenty to chow on, but he is getting a new home soon. A buddy on a local forum is going to put him in a 240. I can't keep him, cause I want to keep shrimp and smaller fish. He won't be a baby for long. ;)

Thanks London, that is very nice of you to say. I am certainly proud of it so far. I have high hopes for an amazing reef in the next few years. Fingers crossed.

As for the questions, no problem. I would actually really like to get a video of the fuge, and I will do that soon. Although soon is probably like another week. Sorry, have a crazy week coming up.

The stand is actually 40" tall. A normal stand is 30-34" tall, but I really like having the tank more at eye level, so I don't have to bend over to see it all. Pulling up a chair is pretty cool too, because you end up looking right at sand level and up. Like watching a movie! LOL! Makes it a pain to clean though. Not gonna lie. I'll get the fuge vid up as soon as I can. Thanks for the compliment.

Broke out my dive camera....

Broke out my dive camera....

Decided to give my dive camera a try in the tank. It's just a Cannon power shot that I have had for years......6mp. However I have the dive case for it and it has an underwater setting as well as a macro. ;)

Turned out GREAT........in fact GREAT enough to see the redbugs on one of my corals!! :angryfire::angryfire:

Oh well. Bayer here I come.

Enjoy the shots anyway. ;)

Meteor Shower Cephastrea......doubled in size over the last month.

Hi Adam,

Don't believe they have one. I went through Neptune Aquatics in Milpitas, CA. They do a lot of business with LeeMar and will get you a fast quote. They can set up shipping to anywhere if you don't live local.

Refugium modification

Refugium modification

Hi there.

Fixed my sump / refugium, and decided to make a video of before and after. I opted NOT to narrate as I can't stand to hear my voice on these things, so enjoy some nice music from the "Afro Celt Sound System."

Basically the sump was made to run at about 12" of depth. However the sump is 24" tall, so I prefer to run it at about 18." At 18" the surface does NOT get skimmed and as you can see it was building up very fast. So I added about 6.5" to the last baffle in the fuge and reinforced it with some acrylic rods. It is now working perfectly!! ;) The video shows the before and after as I was re-filling the sump. Also shows the immediate difference and how the sump works now.

The two returns are linked with a Rio 3000 that is T'd off and sitting in the first chamber of the sump. I did this to avoid the Macro Algea's getting sucked into the pump. I am very happy with the results and it gives a nice amount of flow in the fuge.

Tank is doing well, not much to report.
Frag tank is up and running..........sump is fixed and working great...........good growth on all corals under LED and MH. Can't tell the difference at this point.

Water is looking good, however Calcium is starting to drop, Magnesium is starting to drop and Alkalinity is a daily chore........so..........Calcium reactor is about ready to go online. It was back ordered, but hopefully will be here soon.

Red slime is gone and got my 4th Tunze back online, so flow is much better in the tank.

Had my red headed wrass and a midas blenny jump from the tank......no other losses. Just added a Coral beauty who seems to be adjusting nicely and is so far a good citizen.

Still doing 80 gallon water changes bi-weekly and finally have the phosphates below .10. Still working to get that down even more.

Time to move the monti. :(
