Leonardo's Lagoon

Leo - got a quick Q?? How high is your water level from the edge and do you get a lot of salt creep daily??

Loving your Lagoon....in fact, lovin' it so much that I'm thinking of starting one of my own :p

Ed, that is great news. I was away a couple of days just when you announced that you sold the tank. I found out a week later :( But you're still here!

My waterlevel is only 1" under the edge, and I don't get a lot of salt creep, only some in the corners. I wipe it off once a week and that's it!

I don't love my Lagoon at all (yet), compared to the tank I had, but it is a matter of time. I'm glad you like it and it would be great news if you'll start a tank again.

------------

I will make some new photo's next week, I'm not at home this weekend. I added some new corals :)

Yup, still hang out in RC and lurking at all those beautiful reefs around here... :)

Unfortunately I had to sell the tank at that time as I got some priorities that needed my attention first but all's well now!!

Glad you're back Ed!

I had a few requests for a video that showed the flow in my Lagoon. I didn't want to wait any longer, so here is a Low-Res video. It is very bad in quality, but I hope it is clear enough.

I'm still working on a longer, high quality video of the tank showing all the equipment, corals and livestock! :)

Thanks for watching,

Leonardo

Definetely a different look but I really like it.. Did you grow all those corals from your previous tank?

And a new top-down picture of the Cryptic zone in my sump, the different species of sponges have grown a lot.

your cryptic zone looks like mutant aliens are growing in your reef.......better check on that!!

Thanks Ed.

The cryptic section is about 1/4 of my sump (13" x 13" ) and has very gentle flow. The RDSB is placed underneath the rocks that hold the
sponges.

FUA, I'll keep my eyes open! ;) If this is my last post you'll know what happened.

Thanks Panic. You're right, they really do :) When I'm searching for new corals I always look close for new A. Millepora's.

I'm using Balling for more then a week now, and I already see a difference in my aquarium. Growth has increased much more.
I think the increase is the result of the higher pH. When I used a Ca-Reactor, the pH was 7.8-8.1 Especially at night it was difficult to keep the pH up, even with the use of a Kalkwasser Reactor.

Right now I keep my pH easily above 8.1 (8.1-8.2) so calcification is easier for the corals. I still use My Kalkwasser Reactor hooked up to a pH-controller to be sure I don't overdose. If the controller fails for one reason, only 10 gallon of kalkwasser can be dripped in, because my RO storage is not bigger then that (on purpose)

Because I use Balling now I also don't have to worry about phosphates that enter the tank in the Ca-Reactor effluent. (although that can be filtered out)

I ordered 4 bags of Korallenzucht Aragonit Sand, because of the grain size (3-4 mm) I hope it withstands the flow better then regular sized LiveSand.
Before I put in the sandbed, I will finally arrange the rockwork. When it's all done, I will post some new FTS.

Hello Leonard,

Congratulations on this new project!
The way you build this thread is very inspiring, by explaining all your moves and everyone´s doubts. Thank you for that.

Regarding the tank, I am afraid I don´t bring anything new to the discussion but I couldn´t help to come here and congratulate you anyway for a job well done.

I am anxious to see the tank with some hardscape and some sand to give it a more natural feeling. It´s going to be one sweet tank!

Keep up the good work.

Regards,
André

Can you provide any info and pics on how you set up your cryptic zone? How long did it take for those sponges to grow out like that?

I'd really like to incorporate a cryptic zone in my new tank, but I'm not sure how to go about ensuring the proper amount of flow and what sort of rock to use, etc.?

My new favorite from a trade is the Spiderman or Skittles Mille - blue base with the red polyps. You should check that one out for sure

Any updated FTS? :D

What are you dosing in this tank? Do you feel that your colors are better now that your doing balling?
