AH! yes... thats looks great Leo. My shallow will be 16" high. I'm still thinking about the overflow. I'm waiting to see how yours will work in the end :)

I'm also slowly building up my equipment for it. Just got my skimmer and bought some of the light fittings and got my new RO/DI unit. Will be getting a TDS meter soon.

Keep the updates coming :) :) :)

Joe, I will paint the rear black or dark blue. I didn't paint the back pane of the Formosa Forest, but I think a dark background will create more depth and make the corals pop, just like you said.

Nanocube-Boy, thank you! :)

Tritonian, Thanks! I will keep you updated about the overflow. Will make some extra pictures for you this weekend.

Of course I'll posting updates when I make progession with the build ;)

Leo, great dimensions! I'm loving the new build. I'm assuming the entire left side portion will be an overflow? Any reason why you decided to go with such a big overflow?

Thanks Kigs!

You're right, the overflow is on the left. I decided to go with this overflow because I didn't want to have an overflow somewhere on the back of the tank, spoiling the view.
Besides an overflow from front to back can be larger, so it will process much more water right from the surface - where most of the nutrients tend to collect. (it processes the surfacewater better)
It also gave me the room to drill 4 holes to feed all of my reactors and sump -with just one returnpump-

Just a thought on this Leo.... Since you are going BB like you do, and the tank is shallow, ever think about making a rock type rack? I think itd look unique if you have short rocks, maybe even rubble rock on something, maybe eggcrate. You can hide the front and sides of the eggcrate with some more rock. As cool as BB tanks look, you dont see corals growing on glass in nature, or necessarily on sand for that matter. I think having a slightly elevated type or "rock bed" might be kind of a cool idea. You could make the size vary, giving it depth and some texture. Could look nice, or it could look real cheesy lol.

I'm getting a lil itchy with anticipation over here...can't wait to see what your plans are fr this beauty. Pity you had to take down the Formosa Forest. One of my fav tanks on RC.

Thank you for the reply, Leo. Do you have any shots of how you did this?

What an interesting thought. I may consider this on my next tank.

Thanks for the reactions! :)

Jman, the builder used 0,5" glass. This was enough because the tank is shallow. There is no bowing at all.

Kigs, sorry I haven't posted some pictures of the overflow yet. Will post some soon for you.

Small update:

I doubled the amount of water compared to the old tank. That is a lot of new SW, so a small cycling has started again. All corals and fish are doing well.

I'm still busy with the lights. Besides the MH I decided to place some T5 HO above the tank to get a better spread and spectrum.

I also bought two MH spotlights that I will point at the two highlights in the tank.

Cabinet and sump are ready, electrical unit is installed. I'm currently dialing in the Ca reactor and Kalkwasser Reactor.

Besides that I'm finishing my plans for the aquascape and new livestock.

Will make some pictures soon when I make progress and things are a bit more finished.
