Leonardo's Lagoon

Thank you all for the nice reactions... Means a lot to me.
Today I will get a new return pump. I broke it while taking apart.
I soaked the Tunze's in vinegar overnight with no result. I will use some Wirlpoolcleaner now, otherwise I will get some HCl.

7thheaven; PM-box is empty again!

Thanks again, Leonardo

If you don't have some already get some hydrochloric acid and soak them in that. Lowe's or HD both carry it and possibly a pool supply store.

Don't know whether they have Lowe's in the Netherlands ;)

Leo - Sorry to hear about the crash. Hopefully some of your livestock will pull through, and we'll see you back sooner than later.

Thank you. I also hope some survive...
And you're right, we don't have a Lowes or HD over here. Our whole shopping mall would fit into one of those stores

But my father is a teacher so he will bring some HCl out of the chemistry department tonight :)

Dude, :(
dammit. I hate reading stuff like this.

You're one of my great inspiring reef keepers on here. You're changing the way ppl think about reef scaping and keeping in general.

I'm always checking back for new posts and progress with your system. Actually...you're the only thread I check back on.

I have bad news of my own. I lost all but one fish recently to a huge whitespot outbreak. Still investigating why... I was even successfully keeping a 'coral nipping' blackback butterfly. He was a beauty. The rest of my fish that I had for almost 3 years were all in great health...suddenly got sick and died. Sad times.
But I'm bouncing back.

Hang in there.

Thank you. Good luck to you also, losing fish is even harder then corals maybe.

Bad news- even HCl can't unstuck one of the Tunze's, so the 6201 is ready to be thrown away :(

Please keep checking back- I won't give up.

Leonardo

What bad news - I am following your thread for a while now as I find your setup very interesting and inspiring.

I can only hope you will not give up and start again. Good luck !

Sorry to hear about your incident. Keep your hope up high.

I was wondering if you had a controller , would this have prevented it or not really.

Kevin

Man thats a bummer.

I cant believe that the pumps wont unstick?! Was the tank milky white? Have you tried CLR (Calcium, Lime, Rust) cleaner?

If they wont unstick send them my way, I'll unstick them ;)

Sorry to hear about that also, I'm following, like many, your thread and I'm happy to know that you won't give up. :)

Good Luck !

All the pumps were connected to a Multicontroller. There was actually no precipitation in the tankwater, only in areas with elevated temperatures, like pumps and heating elements.
I guess the pH wasn't that high enough to also precipitate CaCo3 in the tankwater. Therefore parameters Ca, ALK are still in check.

I think the following happenend:

The timer of my T5 lights didn't shut off for two days, reason unknown.
Because of this long light period, combined with the nightly Kalkwasser dosages, the pH raised so high, that CACO3 precipitated in the pumps.
Most of the pumps clogged, shutting down most of the flow in the tank.

The damage I see in my SPS are mostly bleaching because of the extreme lighting period, combined with several cases of STN caused by the lack of flow.

Thanks again for all the reactions, it really gives me new energy to restart things and don't want to make me give up.

Glad to hear you are fighting through.

Bravo Leonardo,

Glad to here it wasn't as bad as you thought! I'm sure you'll be able to pull through and I'm glad you got a shot in the arm from all the encouraging words:D

You'll be up and better than ever before too long, just hang in there~!

This sounds pretty scary. Your light is connected to the timer which is connected to the controller right? When the controller wants to shut off the light, wouldn't it cut off the power to the timer?

I am pretty new to whole controller thing so I just want to understand how this works to prevent it.

It is just a simple digital timer like on the picture. In the future I will place two timers in series. When the first one don't cut the power the second one will.
But maybe it was just my own mistake and I accidentally hit a wrong button. Couldn't find it when I came back home though.

I used something similar too in my tank Leo.... but more confusing as the buttons are in Chinese (which I don't read)

I like the idea of a series timer switch!!

They will only work in series as fail safes if there is a battery back-up the holds both the time and the on/off settings in memory.

dzhuo, I think aquarium computers are very reliable, most of the crashes of tanks are human errors ;)

Jeff, you're right. It will only work if the timer has a battery backup. Most of the digital timers have.
