Leonardo's Lagoon

Hi leonardo,

I reply to your PM (really late, I apologize) lol

A friend of mine was thinking about building a tank 54x36x14. Do you have any tip about the height ? Anything that should required special planning or anything that doesn't work the same in a tank that shallow ? If I remember well, you said that your tangs seems more stress maybe because of the shallowness ? Anything else that you notice ?

Thanks and Bon voyage en France

Thanks Alex!

the Acanthurus had to adjust to the shallower height. In the beginning they were a bit more stressful, that's why I removed the Atlantic Blue Tang. After a week they weren't stressful anymore.
Besides that a tank this shallow is quite hard to aquascape.
When it comes to lighting you need light that can cover the whole surface, but not very intense light because of the shallowness.
Good reflectors when using MH or many T5 are a solution for that.

Bump. I am trying to get to 50 posts so I can break my tank down and sell it here, sorry i just don't have much to say. Great looking tank

Leonardo, I noticed you run a cryptic zone with sponges. Do you dose Zeovit Sponge Power? Im currently dosing this stuff but haven't noticed anything from it. I wanted to know whats your opinion on this sponge power stuff.

Thanks

Then compliment the man's tank!

Thank you Leonardo for sharing your tank with us.

Very impressive! Leonardo, I really like that you have idea and that your inspiration comes from nature. Just keep going ;)

I have a question. Why don`t you use the refugium? Thanks.

Leonardo.

Great tank! I am extremely interested in your cryptic zone tank. Has it been built out yet or are you still waiting?

I once had success with something similar, but found it was also a detritus trap. I'd love to see how you solved this problem.

Thanks RC_fan, I don't use a Refugium because I don't need one for nutrient export because I skim heavy and dose Carbon Sources.

Lostmind, I have a Cryptic fuge in my sump and I'm designing a large 30 Gallon, detritus free sponge refugium now.
I just have high flow in the sump now to prevent detritus, and the sponges don't mind.

Leonardo, do you have any experience with Sponge Power? Whats your opinion on this product? Do you see an improvement in your cryptic zone with it? Thanks

Reefer08, sorry I missed your question :) I don't use sponge power, but I will try that in the future and dose it directly in the cryptic refugium. I'm curious what effect it will have.
Currently I use Creatine (an amino acid) and biopolymers to promote spongegrowth.

Leonardo

Leonardo_ thanks for the reply!

Creatine? Wow I never thought that would be dosed into an aquarium! I remember using that stuff when I was younger haha

What effects have you noticed from creatine? And how long have you been dosing it?

How much creatine are you dosing? I have heard of this before, and I want to give it a try on my tank. Are you seeing any improvement?

Reefer08, I dose it for a few years now, I already dosed it in my Formosa Forest.
In that time I noticed an increase in growth and volume of the sponges.

I found an old and a newer picture:

See the red Dragon pump for size comparison :)

I now dose 0.25 gram of creatine per day. The TM Reef-Actif also seems to feed the sponges btw.

Thanks Moses and LUVSPS for your compliment! :)

I'm developing a 30 Gallon seperate sponge filter right now. The idea is that sponges grow on to layers of mesh, where the water can slowly flow through.
The mesh cartridges will be placed in series, just like in a bee hive:

I'm currently testing which material is preferred to grow the sponges on.
