Leopard Wrasse

i have one eating but the melanarus wont leave it alone... it chills in the back corner and comes out when its feeding time...

I took him out last night and placed him into the sump...

Was thinking i should remove the melanarus and exchange him for another one...

I've got a big melanurus, he doesn't even make eye contact with anyone in the tank.

If you catch yours and want to try another, when I was at Coral Gazers in Tustin off of Redhill the other day they had 4 or 5 small melanurus wrasses, along with quite a few different fairies.

thanks for the heads up... this guy wants to chase and chase and chase... doesnt look at anyone else but he does not like the leopard...

Im going to bring him back to Vivid tonight- they have a bunch right now

Someday I'll make it to Vivid.

Yeah my melanurus does just fine with both my leopards... it does dive bomb the occasional snail tho.

Now I want a Blue Star... maybe I can go three for three and no casualties.

I have both. Healthy and eating all foods.

i got a leopard a couple weeks ago. Its healthy and eats but it only comes out in the morning hours. My tank lights come on at 6pm and by that time. Its already hiding in the sand. I tried blacking out my tank so no light makes it to the tank until my lights turn on but it still doesn't come out. How can I get it to come out during my photo period instead of the morning hours only??

I would think your leopard wrasse might need more time to get accustomed to your normal photo periods, I had the same problem and they just got use to coming out more and more regularly because the feeding times were during the lit hours. And just like clock work they head off to bed couple hours every day before the lights went out.

Thats what mine do. Right at 9pm. Lights off at 10pm.

Yeah give it more time it should adjust its schedule after a while. Hopefully anyway.

well I think its been like almost a month since i got it. So hopefully it will adjust soon. It will eat in my tank but I've been kinda holding off on feeding it in the morning hours thinking it might get use to feeding in the morning. It feeds on pods in the morning so I'm hoping it will start coming out for food at night

Hmm not sure. My Potters sort of did what the blackspotted was already doing. They sleep in the same area as well. The blackspotted eats everything including pellets and flakes. The Potters is only eating meaty foods from what I can tell, so different mysis, and cyclops.

Does it hide in the rockwork or does it actually bury itself... maybe when the lights come on? Have you seen where it sleeps?

It buries itself before the lights even come on. Haven't found it's sleeping spot. Was thinking I should try and find him when the lights come on but also don't want to stir ish up in the sand. Would it be wise to try this route since I don't believe it will adjust on it's on. Get him out of the sand then feed the tank?

I was thinking something like that. Maybe someone else can chime in with experience. Im not sure if that would work or not. You would probably want to be gentle about it.

Hey Cody,
Sorry I was busy trying to find out what is wrong with my tank and finally found out that it was the par problem. Need to get a new reflector. As for my Leopard wrasse, she is eating Hikari Mysis shrimps actively. I am trying to get the wrasse to eat pellets. I guess I am part of the wrasse club you started Cody. Now after my lights are fixed, then my next project is the one and only POTTER WRASSE. Oh YEAH!
