Ok, I thought you were talking about '68 ;)

Well, we agree on U of M...my grandparents both went there so I was brought up on U of M football.

AO has been very attentive now and called/emailed 3 times today double checking various details. I sent them these schematics that are a little more precise (green for regular glass, blue for starphire), notice the eurobracing is different - since this is in-wall I'm opting for structural rigidity over a little aesthetics.

Did you just say AO? I have a friend (Chad) who is taking down his 225G AO tank and replace it with another tank because.... :(. I hope i misread the post...

Yup, he is one of the two that had an AO tank split at the seems right? (the other being asnatlas) I read through those threads and it seemed to be because of their eurobracing design, where the are glued against each other, instead of overlapping. One of my specific conditions for the tank was that the eurobracing be overlapping...check out the schematic vs. the pic of the tank they built with the wrong overflow, and you'll see the difference. The way they normally do it looks nice, but seems MUCH less solid than overlapping the braces.

Ive always wondered why glass braces werent cut from one continuous piece like almost every acrylic bracing Ive seen.

is it really that hard to make it from one big piece?

I will cross all my finger for you my brother :D. Chad, his tank has not split yet but the side panel is on it way :(. Greg has an 60g which split open and kill all the live stock, Asnatlas has his 600g on the floor. I know there is a few more folks.

the reason why acrylic eurobrace are not done in one piece to saved on cost. imagine a sheet of 4x8 1" thick cost about $900-1200 and use that just to cut out few holes to make eurobrace will bring the display cost up way more.

of course i look for a deal when buying tank and anything in general. now if you have the extra money then go ahead :D. since my tank was located in the garage where no one can tell the flaws, it is much cheaper. on the other hand if your display is setup where everyone can see all the details, then you need to take out 2nd mortgage .

hehe...yea the one piece acrylic eurobrace and pvc bottom explain why AGEs are so much more expensive...but on this one, if I walked away, the difference was 3700 + shipping for the AGE vs. 1900 shipped for the AO!

In fairness I've seen many more AO tanks that havent split...but I don't want to dismiss this...the tanks I saw that split seemed like they could likely be attributed to the weak eurobracing design...were there other reasons??? At the least I feel like mine will be a lot stronger because of the overlapping braces, right? :)

bart - what happened with your tank?

Tenecor did mine out of a single piece of acrylic, 1.25 inches thick. They gave me two nice cut out lids, with the left overs, to cover the tank if I want. (Each one weighs about 30 pounds).

well its a done deal now...they have ordered the glass, so cross your fingers...in all seriousness, with the beefed up eurobracing, I'm safer right?

You don't know what happen to his tank? His tank is the fish killar :D

i love the design for the bar/tank/sump room. my brother was 1/2 hour into designing the exact samething. exept our tank is 72"x24"x30"(LxWxH). even how the hole room is the same. i may need to use this as a reference. thanks.

swresearcher - no problem, have him look around this forum at some of the aquascaping possibilities with the extra width. He may think about switching the width and the height :) either way, it should be a sweet build.

so exactly how will the eurobrace be added? its hard to maintain a large display since im still newbie.

cbui2 - check out the picture of the tank they accidentally made, its 4 braces that all sit at the same level, so the edges are just siliconed together. then look at the sketchup I just posted...the braces overlap at the corners, which makes them much stronger.
