So would she flip if you went for 36"? :) When you talk to them, see about bumping from 24 to 26 inches high...the additional cost for me was negligible.

She wouldn't flip, but she'd be pretty unhappy as the furniture in the living room would be cramped. I was thinking about doing that with the height. Yeah, going from 30 to 32 in depth was negligible too.

I bought a used JS1, which turned out to be a mini disaster. But I wouldn't hesitate to get a brand new one from a dealer.

T, you're like the plague. :lol2:

mccliffy - Many JS1 owners have said that their reactors require a peri-pump in order to get consistent effluent rates. Something to consider. I looked at the Schurans, but didn't want to spend money on another pump, and didn't have room for another pump.

Toofly - sorry to hear about that. What made you decide to go with the Schuran over Geo and others? Or was it just (what seemed like) a good deal?

T-bone - do you know of a thread off hand where JS1 owners are talking about this? not sure what a peri-pump is or how it would work...I've never owned a CA reactor so I'm pretty ignorant as to how they work.

Glassbox - thanks for posting that link. That's one of the bigger JS threads. I also forgot to mention the almost non-existent customer service from Schuran and headaches in getting replacement parts.

McCliffy - PM Marko9. He has an AquaC. perhaps he can share his experiences.

Should you decide on a reactor, you won't regret it. It is one of the easier pieces of equipment to operate.

It seemed like a good deal plus I spoke to a couple people who use and love them. Aside from having to sometimes use a peri pump, the JS1 is supposed to be a dependable, clog free reactor.

Terry, what Ca reactor are you using again?

geo 612. the JS1 was my first choice. PA had them on clearance for $300 brand new. It's a good reactor, and efficiently uses CO2, but I didn't want to spend money on the pump.

Paul, be careful tigthening the screws on your reactor. Some owners did it too tight and cracked theirs. This is when they learned it takes months to get replacement parts.

You can get a decent peri pump for under $100. I plan on using one for top-off. It's a little bit of a guessing game. But once you've got a good idea of how much water evaporates throughout the year, you can keep it dialed-in pretty well. I've heard that people use them for gradual water changes too.

I sent the broken reactor back. I need to get one eventually... from a shop this time.

I'm sure. I just didn't want to spend money if I didn't have to. My main concern was getting replacement parts. Are you getting the same reactor again? If so, have you considered the JS2? I've read that one doesn't need the peri-pump. It can be fed with MJ1200

Isn't the JS2 like $800 or something in that range? Sheesh.

From what I understand, you can feed the JS1 with a little pump too.

I don' know what I'm getting yet. But trying to get CS support from Schuran does not sound like fun. I might try that Geo 612 or 618. I take it you're happy with yours?

js2 is expensive. saw a used one today on classifieds for 700. Yes, JS1 can be fed with normal pump. But this is where people are getting the inconsistent effluent rates, which defeats the whole point of stablitiy from a reactor.

Very happy with my GEO. set and forget, and pretty cheap. I think you should go 618 or 624 on your sized tank. Also think the JS2 is a better sized reactor for your tank

I had a friend with a JS1 and he hated it. I thought the acrylic work was some of the nicest I have ever seen. Again, no peri pump. I think with the Jet Streams, it's better to actually "Pull" the water through the reactor with a peri pump. If you look on Ebay for "cole parmer" or "masterflex" you can find them sometimes. I got lucky, my LFS sells them.

Have you seen the LifeReef calcium reactor that I have? It is built very well, but I cannot yet speak to how well it works. I got it used. I tried to fire it up this weekend and found that one of the connections was cracked (I may have been scammed), but Jeff at LifeReef is fixing it for a very good price and is going to give it a good once over to ensure it is up to snuff and ship it back. Outstanding customer service. I shipped it to him today.

Ive never heard of using a peristaltic pump to PULL water from a reactor before... when I think of it I can't figure out how it works :( anybody care to elaborate?

I am using a paristaltic pump to PUSH water into a kalk reactor (different I know) which then forces water out into the sump.

I just cant figure out how pulling it from the reactor would allow the same amount of water to enter.

Jim - Ill have to check it out this weekend. Tonight I got the corners at the top of the wall done with cornerbead and mud, its looking pretty good.

you will have your tank up and running before I get mine started.. and Ive had mine for a few months already lol. Sad times =\
