No sand :p ....and no Copperband :(

Chainsaw,

South Loop has a lot of new properties...they are commanding higher prices now, but give it a year or two and I wouldn't be surprise if they come down.

In a six block radius of us we have 5+ new high rises going up, one of which is 700ft-65 stories... already some are having a difficult time selling.

South Loop isn't very Columbia....not trendy enough I suppose ;) A lot of my friends that attend there live in Pilsen, still has some lofts and much more affordable. It's a "rough" area so they score brownie points while riding their fixed gear bikes  i joke

Sorry for the derailment Mike

i'm a softie dad (yeah right!) most of her classes are down in the 1100 so. michigan zone. trying to locate one that doesn't require walking uphill in the snow and sub-zero temps both directions.

us kaleeefornia peeps don't really understand what sub-freezing temps are...never mind what sub-zero is. :eek1: whadaya mean i can't wear sandals and shorts today???

I went from California to Detroit when I was young... I didnt think it was bad. But then again, that was when I was in middle school. If you move to the midwest, Id aim for Michigan over Illinois any day ;)

Yup. Plus no po4 leaching issues, no PH suppression.

I have not used the profi doser, so I cannot comment on accuracy or durability. They look very similar to the grotech's though...

Just something else to consider :p

That is very tempting, I'm going to look into it. So you basically, get two part, set up a couple big jugs of it, and have a dosing pump drip it in?

Mike- Great Thread. I have been following along in the shawdow. Either way you go, you will be happy. I am very pleased with my AquaC and the others are good products as well.

Yup two part + NaCl free salt (trace elements) to keep everything in balance. Seems to be the popular european supplementation method right now.

I really like the idea of the GHL dosing pumps, and the dosing pumps themselves are actually competitively priced...I'm having trouble justifying the Profilux controller tho, it is big $$$....The kits dont make sense for me because I'd be paying for the Tunze control and level sensors I don't need (have Vortechs and an Osmolator sitting at home already).

Cost for profilux:
- base EX unit is $670
- The 6 plug isn't enough, and the expansion plug is $300,
- the salinity probe is $240,
- the PH probe is $105,
- the moonlights are going to run $200,
- the LAN expansion is $200,
- the dosing pumps are at $240

That puts me at $1950 for what I need, yikes!

This vs. Reefkeeper Elite:
- base unit $490 (includes moon light, ph probe, 8 outlets (v. 6))
- Programming Dongle $30
- Expansion outlet $90
- I'm guessing Wireless LAN will be $200-250, salinity $100-150, and I can get aquamedic dosing pumps for $250 (although the RKE can control dosing pumps, so I'm guessing they will release some eventually)
That puts my total at around $1150 for the RKE, which is a huge difference. I also like the way the RKE mounts better. The only thing is that I think the way DA has handled its release is completely unprofessional, I'm almost tempted not to purchase on principle.

$30 gets you a programming dongle?! where have I been...;)

That's a good chunk of change and if you're not going to use the controls for ATO and Tunze sounds like it may not be for you.

Just a heads up the AquaMedic dosers are terrible....IIRC, IKS makes some adjustable Vario dosers that can function stand alone. LM3 is always an option too.

I was just looking at those other options for dosing...I'm also wondering if the aquatronica or profilux dosers might work with the RKE since they have the generic "controller" input...

BTW, I ruled out Aquatronica because when I was at the store that cant be named, I saw two dead ones sitting by their living room display. To quote Mike, "they are crap."

Right now I'm thinking two running long ways (attached on the right side, either side of the overflow), one in the middle of the back side, between the returns.

SOunds good. I'm thinking of getting a third and putting two on one end and the third on the other end, which is pretty typical. I'd like to put all three on the back, but the internal overflow box would be a problem.

Id like to run them at opposite ends, but since my tank is in-wall and on the corner (front and right side viewable, it would look terrible...thinking I'll be ok tho with the wavy seas sending flow in that direction.
