mcliffy2,

Your tank is absolutely beautiful! I hope that I will be able to achieve similar results with my 180.

ptan - I see an occasional nip, but nothing the coral can't withstand. The only corals I've had problems with are some varieties of zoas, acan lords, and micros. Otherwise I've been able to keep most SPS and LPS successfully with the angels.

cool... thanks for your advise... glad to see this thread of yours... it inspires me to put a majestic and regal on my upcoming tank... thanks again!

I got a chance to check out this system in person over the weekend and I must say I was impressed! It is not often that I am so impressed by a system, but Mike's tank was amazing. The coral placement, color, and growth is impressive, especially the blue tort.

Mike and Eric from Glassbox-Design were even nice enough to take me along to one of their local fish shops, Old Town Aquarium. We got lucky and they were just unloading a shipment of great looking chalices, SPS, and LPS.

Thanks again Mike. When you and Eric swing over to my area ill be sure to give you guys a guided tour. :D

Sonny - np, glad you had a good time in Chicago. Thanks for the kind words about the tank, we're definitely planning a MI trip at some point.

What do you have in place in your system to take place in case of a power outage? I really have nothing in place and given what happened to someone recently, I really need to do somehting. Im just trying to figure out what is the best route...

Mayor Daley :D I've lived in Downtown Chicago for 6 years, and there hasn't been so much as a brown-out...I really should invest in a generator soon.

Mccliffy,

Happy New Year... hope all is well with you and that fantastic tank of yours!

Wondering if any new updates/pics??? Your tank was/is very inspirational and it's been fun breezing through this thread to catch up.

Hope to hear from you soon!

Dave

Happy New Year to everyone as well. The tank is going nicely. Besides some annoying cyano issues, the fish are healthy, and the corals are colorful and growing. I've been busy with some non-reef related fun, with a dive trip to Belize and an upcoming trip to Palau. I'll have some updates soon.

Mike,

I just skimmed through the entire thread. I might of missed it, but I did not find any info on your photoperiod. BTW, awesome looking tank.

A quick update: I have recovered from the coral bleaching event in my tank -- I lost a few colonies, but fortunately had backups of all that I would have been upset about losing. I had to chop up my huge showpiece green/blue-tip stag to save it, but it is recovering and will grow back quick.

Here is an almost-FTS showing the new scape:

Here is a fisheye pic of the reaquascaped section (please ignore the cyano, I'm still trying to figure that problem out).

I also just picked up a Canon 7D and the Canon EF 100mm f/2.8L Macro IS USM. This new lens is a bit pricier than the old Canon 100mm macro, but I am very impressed by it. The focusing is super fast and accurate, and IS is very impressive -- combined with the ability to shoot pretty good quality up to 3200 ISO, I'm finding that handheld macros come out very well. Here is a sampling of the first pics I took, all handheld. I used a 10K custom WB on the camera, and did no adjusting of WB afterwards, just some contrast and sharpening with Canon's utility.

Wow, very nice pix, Mike!!!!! Any idea what caused the bleaching? I just has a minor event as well and lost a very nice Hyacinthus.

Mcliffy2,

Nice job, the tank looks stunning! I'm not sure if you saw my thread on battling cyano, but I would definitely check it out.. I had a horrible outbreak.. It was recommended by some other experienced reefers to use Microbe Lifts Special Blend to help rid the tank of Cyano... So, I tried it along with gravel siphoning, ozone and changing my carbon source to 1 part vodka 3 parts vinegar. I was Cyano free in less than 5 weeks.. SB is really good stuff. There are before and after pics in the thread. I've actually discontinued my use of MB7 due to it's effectiveness.
