Let's put everything in including the kitchen sink.

Is it me or has the last 5 years or so of this hobby been plagued by the amount of crap we put in the water. Got algae oh just go ahead and dump some peroxide in I mean come on. Now there are dozens of threads of what to do if you add too much peroxide. What ever happened to understanding the aquarium and patience.

Have you heard about whiskey dosing.
Can I use cheap vodka or is grey goose better?

I started dosing Jack Daniels a few months ago and I've noticed my fish have taken a liking to NASCAR and country music...:fun2:

We live in a time of immediacy, think about it the average teenager can more easily name Miley Cyrus or Kanye by picture than Joe Biden, there are people that are coming in that are used to getting everything that they want right now, so they are getting used to it, and expect it out of things like our tanks as well.

I just exhale into my skimmer. :smokin:
Keeps my fish nice and chill. No fights. I just make sure I feed them well.

Along with the impatience's of people. The other number one problem is shows like Tanked... I hear many people tell me I want to start a tank it looks soo easy after watching shows like that. But then again how many would watch a show where it takes about 3 months before you add the first small critters some snails and crabs. Long tern reef success is based on a few things.

1. Research.
2. Good equipment.
3. Good Husbandry.
4. Patience.

In fairness I can recognize Joe Biden when I see him and wish I couldn't :lmao:

You know I'd be interested to see what average age for all these "dose happy reefers are" I'd be willing to bet they have never seen the goonies either.

This hobby is what really taught me patience. If I wasn't able to practice it, I wouldn't be in the hobby anymore b/c my experience would have just been one failure after another.

Dosing equal parts bleach and ammonia will kill all algae. What ratio should I dose?

Probably enough to make the death quick. Its also common practice to leave the bottles on your front porch so the ME doesn't have to search too hard....

When I got into the hobby, kalkwasser was the only additive. Everything else was snake oil. I am sure in the last ten years, some real advances have come out.
But I'll stick with what I know for now. I always loved the simplicity of a reef tank. It teaches zen. The less you mess around, the better. Patience, water changes, and minimal bioload always was the magic formula for me. It taught me patience at a very impatient and busy time of my life.
So this fuddy duddy will stick with what she knows works..
