is this a maze brain?

Mine hasn't really grown much, but you can cut it with a band saw and I'm sure it'll encrust. I had the problem of some of it die off in te beginning and then some of re side didn't get enough light and then a snail pushed my chalice too close and it stung a bit of it and died off. Been a rough time for my poor brain :( still alive and well other than te above problems. Um sure it would have taken off if not for tear setbacks. Anyone else with more time than me with these?

My Playtgyra is 6 years old in my tank, getting kinda large these days, check out the inflatations on the coral, it drops these bubbles of coral off which float away and start mini maze brain corals elsewhere. It has really long sweepers at night.

do you know what that bubble on the top right is caused from? a good buddy of mine has one of them on his green one... neither of us know why its there, its kinda recent... thanks if you can help or anyone else for that matter

actually i think his might be a favia or something... either way, its looks exactly like that... sorry to correct myself

Ok, here is mine it is about four inches long

If anyone knows how to get these corals to grow in a round shape, or has one that was bought rounded and kept that form as it grew I would love to see them/know how to get them to grow that way!

I think that has to be one of the most eye catching corals if you have a large round brain coral in your tank. They look cool when they encrust things and have weird shapes, but a natural smooth round shape is so rare in the aquarium. Everything has branches, or folds, or tentacles (yes I know they have feeding tentacles too, but they don't have them out all the time), that that round shape has to be one of the coolest most eyecatching things in the hobby IMO. One of my favorite corals... depending on the shape ;)

Very nice everyone. Yes, a round brain would be awesome. I like mine, it was better looking before I had to cut a chunk out because of it stn-ing.

Mine is round. Bought it round, and it has stayed round for a year so far. It is slightly bigger than a baseball. It has only started growing out a little around the edges. The problem with getting it to stay round is that the coral wants to grow towards the light and the light is not underneath the curvature of the rock it is on. Thus it grows outward.

Wow I seriously didn't know it was that special. No joke. This is one of those corals I bought thinking- "ok, not rare, but cool shape, and probably pretty common, but I like it."

Thanks!

BTW it wasn't purple when I got it.

At first it looked like this:

It is a major slime factory too. I try at all costs not to make it mad.

Bongo: I guess their like Favia then, they will change colors in a tank.
Snidely: That second one is superb! Love the color/contrast reversal from the others pictured here.
Nice everyone!
