Let's See Some T5 Only Lite Tanks (remember Just T5 Lite Tanks) :-)

I will probably just go with 2 of the 4 lamp retro's from Happy Reefing. Is $199 a good price for a four lamp kit including lamps and reflectors? Are the lamps any good that come with these kits?
Thanks for the help!

I'd give it a shot. The reflectors look like the ice caps, look too mirrored to be SLS but it could just be the pic. In either case they are parabolic if as pictured. The ballasts look to be a Workhorse 7, Not a program start but will work and may even overdrive the lamps a bit under certain configurations. Appears to be waterproof endcaps as well. For 200 bucks you can't go wrong. The only possible downside might be the GE lamps if they burn as ugly as some people who have used them and ATI suns suggest but they are using ATI blueplus or the NARVA blues which are the very same lamp. Even if you had to spring for an Aquablue to tone down the GE lamp it is a great deal.

MY TURN! MY TURN!

Looking good! Are those cups holding the fixture ?

Gabe

Not nervous about the light taking a bath if it slips off of the glasses? I actualy just ordered legs for both of my 48x8 fixtures.

Whenever I clean the tank I take the whole fixture off, I dont have the room to move it to one side anyways. THen cups hold in place quite well.
The cups were actually inherited by the guy who had the tank before me on the PC.
The weight on the T5 fixture presses the glasses on the tank quite well.
Oh, I asked about a shimmering effect a long time ago and soembody told me no.
You actually CAN still shimmer with the T5 and PC!
You jsut ahve to REALLY agitate the surface.
I aimed my tunze 6000 and my maxijet 1200 up at the surface and I get a shimemr in the tank just like Halide.
So it does shimmer folks.
The T5 does shimmer better than the PC.

I get shimmer about 8" down but I don't have to do anything special to get it. I will have to try turning the stream towards the surface a bit.

O boy. No skimmer, no sand, no fuge, what is the world coming to? O yea no fish either....... Must not even be a reef. Why bother having a tank with no fish? LOL I have heard it all. I just keep it super clean with 50 micron socks and super flow. Don't feed anything but light and let it rock. Truely a believer that good water quality and quality light and flow and your gold. Of course I do have a few gadjets, but only a calcium reactor and the normal monitoring devices. Keep the nutrients out and really have found no need to scrub my water much. Heh come on down and take a peek I'm only a few short miles away...........

Having a Tunze 6000 in a 40g is pretty nutty, so I get pretty good shimmer with pretty VIOLENT surface agitation.

Sounds interesting. Would love to take a peek but I would have to come more than a few miles to come over. Too bad you didn't document the progress (or maybe you did) it would be neat tosee how the system has progressed. Your method sounds reasonable but I gotta have my fish!

about reto kit or fixtures?

about reto kit or fixtures?

We have 125 that is 72 inches long. We want to use two 36 inch tek light fixtures. Would that be okay? I noticed that some peolpe are using retros and others hood. We want to put it in our canopy but we are concerned about water getting in fixture. Are people using acylic lens cover or not? Any info would be helpful.

Thanks
Christy

I just adjusted my PH to not cause any splatter.

O.k I take it back, the T5 is pretty darn bright.
It is bright without you knowing about it.
I noticed that after I look at my tank and I look at something else, I see spots.

Use the 60" T5 retros instead. More powerful and less expensive to set up. Just stagger the lamps a few inches end to end and you'll have even light all the way across. I didn't stagger mine and it stillprovides pretty even light. Page 4 of my gallery has a pic of my 125 at 2 months old which actually exaggerates how dark the upper edges are.

Hey Ti, can you or someone post a pic of just the T5 03 Acintic(s) on...?

I don't think I have ever seen a picture of just the 03 Actinics... I know they aren't as popular as the Blue Plus...
