***!!!let's see those rare clownfish!!!!***

oh ok I thought I had something special. If by any chance you happen to run across that picture again could you let me know?

It is actually in my Fautin and Allen (1992) book. There is a single fish pictured on the melanopus description page and then near the back of the book there is a field of BTAs and a large group of melanopus that includes 1, maybe 2 bar-less fish. I don't know if the same pictures are included in the more recent versions of the book.

From the "uncommon" list. A. sebae
I owned this fish for several years, and couldn't find a mate for it. This is a pic of when I tried to pair it with A. polymnus.

And when I first got it. Still in the bag.

Let me see if I can get all my rare/uncommon clowns in one post.

Female Leuc

Not a great pic, but a pair of Nigripes

My first pair of sebaes. The females tail turned black (not uncommon I understand).

Same tank, same anemone, different pair of sebaes (sold the first pair)

Akindynos. Only pair I still have of the above fish. Most others were sold.

I am sticking this one in here because it was one of my favorite fish. I had a pair that actually laid eggs for me twice. I sold them to a clown breeder because I thought they were picking on my corals. Turns out they probably weren't. :(
Its a Red Sea Mimic blenny. They used to come in mixed with black-lined blennies (the ones they imitate), but for some reason they don't seem to be collecting small fish from the Red Sea anymore. They were never common, but haven't even heard of any being offered in over 10 years.

Do you still have that gig?

I knew somebody was going to ask me that. That gig was a reclamation project. The pic is from a couple years ago. The anemone was in pretty bad shape when I got it. Notice the gaps between tentacles and general flaccidness of the oral disk. I liked the color and got it for a very cheap price, so I thought I would take a chance. It didn't last 2 weeks.
The akindynos' current home is a BTA that I have had for several years, but just moved it to this tank about a year ago.

Its sort of an orange/pink depending on what day it is with yellow tips.

My tri's are my fav pair i have so far. i have others like Rods Onyx, and a snowcasso's and picasso's. but i like the classic clowns better. Tricinctus, Chrysopterus are my fav. I would love to own a pair of Chrysogasters one day.

Clarkiis aren't rare, but I think this pair I got a while back was pretty spactacular.

Those certainly are spectacular.. Do you still have them? That female looks like a monster clown!

Allardi's

Allardi's

I have a pair of Allardi's also. They are super cool. I bought this carpet at a pet store in NJ. It was bleached but healthy so I bought it. The Allardis took right to it and helped it settle it overnight. I have owned them for about 4 months now. They travel between the RBTA and the carpet but the female is partial to the carpet. He just goes wherever she makes him...HEHE!

Great clowns! I had a pair in my FO, but lost the female recently for unknown reasons :(

There was a good sized shipment of these fish that hit the states about a year ago +/-. I haven't seen them since. They were said to have come from Australia. Definitely not your run of the mill clarkii. Beautiful fish!

I just noticed something. If that's 1/2" eggcrate behind the female, that puts her about 3 to 3.5 inches from her anal fin, to her dorsal. That's a monster fish. Don't let Jeremy Wade, from River Monsters, know you have it. He'd break out his fishing poll. LOL

i have a friend who just inherited a pair of large clarkii. biggest clowns i ever seen. i swear the female was easy 6" long. tall and thick also. beautiful fish. i am kicking myself for not buying the pair to breed them.

I somewhat recently moved cross country (again) and had to move my clownfish collection/breeding room.. The move went really smoothly and I am now in a place that I plan to be for a while.. So I am feeling really good about my reefing.. :)

I thought I would share this video..
