wow beautiful black tear drops... where you get them

Thanks. It is a very beautiful clam. I had a 135 reef that was barebottomed for several years. I had no problems, and then I put 2 inches of the very fine sand in it and battled algae problems for over 2 yrs. So when I converted everything over to a larger tank, I had planned to put a very small amount of sand on the bottom just to cover it. I still have not done it, I can't decide to do it or not. My tank is also mainly sps and I have a lot of water movement. And don't want it blowing around. So it may stay like it is. I have seen a barebottom thats been running for over 10 yrs and it looks great. Mine is only a year old this July.

Im just about to do a new Clam+sps tank and it's going to be bare bottom.
My best tanks were BB, with LS, it was always OK tanks or problems.

So you are saying that if it were you. Don't add any LS leave it bare? I have been leaning that way more so than adding any sand. My bottom glass is getting encrusted with coraline algae. I think pink is nicer than white. :)

Znut,
I'm in the process of making another tank, and I'm really looking forward to have it done.
It's going to be a nice toy with IKS, Deltec and Grotech equipment.
I made up my mind that I wont have ANY LS in this tank.
I remember my old tank with the BB, and it was nicer, easier to clean, and less potetial for a failure.
I know most of the reefers wont agree with me, but I'm going back to old school.
It worked for me more than fine for years, it never let me down, I dont have a clue why did I ever started with the LS.

I think you'll be very pleased with the bare bottom tank you got planned. It sounds like a nice project you got planned. And I wish you great success. What size are you planning? We all will look forward to the pics. I haven't posted many pics of my sps tank I want to give it time to grow.
As far as the LS goes, the bare bottom is very easy to clean. The bottom of my tank has very little to none to vac up. I'm going to leave it bare bottom. Like you going back to the old school. Had alot less problems with algae.
When I had the 135 it only had 2 inches of LS in it. I had major algae problems for over 2 yrs, I bought tons of snails and still could not beat it. Not to mention weekly WC and pulling and scrubing the rock.
We built a house and when I moved the tank, I didn't put any LS in the bottom of the tank. ALL the algae died, we were amazed in 2 months time the tank looked like a whole new tank. So when I set this one up, we didn't add any sand. So thats food for the thoughts. :)
