Easy simple flow.
Easy simple flow.
I am sure that there are others out there are using SCWDs in the their tanks to create flow but most seem to be used in closed loop external systems. In my main reef tank, a 135gal, I have a pair of Turbelles on a controller. In addition, my return from my sump goes to a pair of SCWDs lying horizontal just below the surface. This combination creates random and at times whirlpool like turbulence. The SCWDs are hardly visible and out of the way. Now, that technique is pretty straight forward, what I did for instant flow in my newly set up 65 gal sps tank is both very effective and simple, thats what my physics prof used call an elegant solution. I have a Mag 7 mounted with a split T output going to two separate SCWDs. This only requires 14" of PVC, two elbows and a T fitting. The flow is naturally alternating, at different rates and directions, and easy to hide behind the rock work. I paid about 700$ for my Turbelle system, this little unit costs about 120$, and simple is good.
