Levamisole In-Tank Treatment for AEFW

Just a heads-up for anyone else having to order a digital scale from Harbor Freight to mass out their dose: coupon code 'tool20' will get you 20% off a single item from HF - just worked for me.

Just placed my order for PROHIBIT, more testing to follow when I receive.

I apologize to anyone who bought the vermisol, my intention wasn't for anyone to waste their money. I think so far we have learned some good information and hope that we can really develop a good treatment protocol.

Absolutely James, this is experimentation keep it up!

Another questions that may interest other reefers also.
I use Lime Water(kalk). If any of you that used Levamisole also use kalk, It's any negative side effect for the tank? Anything that we may be aware of?

Thanks guys, I'm form Puerto Rico, USA. I ordered my Prohibit yesterday afternoon from American Livestock, I hope they have it in stock and to receive it ASAP, to begin to counterattack those ......!

Nothing to worry about there. Good luck with the treatment.

Curious if anybody has seen an increased about of algae while treating their takes? Seem like I'm getting more algae the last few weeks around the tank and on the floor.

hi all... i've been following this thread since the start date..i've bought a bottle of vermisol but have not try it yet...

have anybody ever tries hypo-salintiy (ick) to kill these little basters....

I'd caught a flatworm(AEFW) that was crawling on my tank glass during early morning hour and put it in a glass with the tank water ... i added some fresh water into the glass and notice the little baster was swirling up and eventually stop moving within 10mins...

the salinity was measured at 1.015sg...i should have add the fresh water slowly to see the effect of a higher sg. rather than at 1.015...

i'm no scientist or biologist, just a hobbyist who is in hatred of these little basters.....i notice when i do a fresh-water dip, the AEFW almost immediately fall off the colony and died within 5mins....but fresh water dipping is too harsh on the SPS...

so my question is : have anybody try (whole tank) hypo-salinity to treat ick and see any effect on the sps...

Hi tqui, thanks for joining us. Hypo salinity may work to kill them, the problem is corals, especially SPS, can not tolerate such conditions.

clown i have not noticed an increase in algae that may just mean that after some of the die off may be lingering in your tank- it shouldn't get out of control tho .

I agree, what u say is exactly what I was thinking was the cause. I'm going to do a water change the following day to get everything that dies out of there.

How many Prohibit pills I'll need for 1.66 grams of Levamisole?
Maybe someone can sell me some until I'm sure at least that I'll receive my order(no backorders, missing address, etc) I know this is not the selling forum, I'm really sorry moderators but I'm in a hurry, I'm desperate! Just PM me!

Thanks again

Eric

Just completed my third treatment last night. This time I took the following steps.

1- Turned off light switches before the lights came on so they wouldn't come on.
2- Turned off skimmer and turnoff GAC/GFO reactor
3-Mixed 3g of prohibit powder
4- Poured mix into sump
5- After two hours I turned on the lights
6- Immediately following turning on the lights I turkey basted all corals
7- Then I stirred up all the floor to make sure nothing was hiding in the floor.
8- At the end of the treatment I stuck a new filter pad in the sump which I will wash today. Then I turned back on the skimmer and GAC/GFO reactor.
9- Everything is back looking happy again and snails are moving around again.

I plan on doing a 5 gallon water change today to suction out the floor in the tank really good.

Next Saturday will be my fourth treatment out of six that I plan on doing.

Well was gonna dose today but appears the digital scale I bought only measures out to the nearest gram. Where I need 7.75 grams...it will not suffice and I'm not chancing it either. Just ordered the one from Harbor Freight. At least it measures to the nearest tenth of a gram. Bit closer to what I need.

Surprisingly I found no ill will when rounding to the nearest gram. As long it is not to the nearest tenth gram, you should be ok :)

OK screw it. Decided to start my dosing today. Some background... Just upgraded to a new 500g system. 300g display, two 50g prop tubs and a 100g sump. I am following Bax's lead as I am not subtracting volume for rock, sand etc. I am going with the case vol of each. Since my system is new, most everything are frags anyways so if this doesn't work in 6 weeks I will go the ol traditional route of regular dips. I can transfer all frags into one of the tubs and basically use the system as a QT anyway. I will be using Prohibit product 52g pk.
52g/46.8g = 1.11grams prohibit = 1g levi
5/300 x 500 = 8.33grams levi needed
1.11 x 8.33 = 9.246g per dose

Since this scale only measures in whole grams I am going with an even 9grams this time around. I'll keep you posted.

Also I am hooking up several Silent Air B11 air pumps to help oxygenate my system. I have 2 pumps blowing air bubbles underneath a couple of my vortechs that chops them into micro bubbles and another in one of my prop tubs underneath a Koralia. Should help somewhat while the skimmer is off.

I will be dosing for 8hrs rather than 5.

Let us know how it goes. I dosed my QT for 8 hrs will no ill effects. I am going to check if there are any more egg sacks.

Well as of the 6th hour corals appear fine. Most of my fish are hiding but otherwise seem OK but not exactly thrilled. Tons of dead mini brittle stars and bristle worms. Clam and RBTA's seem fine as well. Hermits seem dazed. I'm gonna let it go for another hr then turn on GAC and skimmer.

This is the curious thing - I had lots of die-off with the Foyes' Vermisol of other organisms, but apparently not the target organisms :(

Bristle worms were hard hit - lots of dead. Spaghetti worms were also cut down. Amphipods had significant die-off, but copepods and mysids do not seem to have been affected at all. Hermits showed absolutely no sign of discomfort, and I have no fish. Asterina stars unaffected, mini brittles were not observed.

Can anyone confirm that they actually saw a major AEFW die-off during treatment? As in FW's peeling off of acros en-masse (more than 1 or 2 isolated AEFW's)?

Skimmer and carbon back on for 3 hrs or so. Still not much activity regarding fish swimming around as typical. No fatalities thus far though. Hope I didn't just jinx myself. ;)
