this is a fish store here in northern california. i wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't bigger then 2'... it's hard to tell in the pic but you can kind of see that it seems like it's sitting in a bowl as well but is flowing over the bowl and down the sides of it... this nem was massive... and so was that bta... the bta was prolly over 12" fully extended.

This is a perfect example, to show people how big these carpet anemones can get. I wish our LFS were able to get such a fine specimen. WOW, that thing is massive :D I LOVE IT!

That purple one should have been left on the reef. Probably 100+ years old

totally agree. now somone will probably have a tank crash or something wrong and it will die. 100 years of history and survival gone

Whoa...it may be 10 or 20 years old. Just because it is big does not indicate age.

size of a coral does indicate age.... i would think a 2foot anemone, probably even bigger, would take over 10 years to grow that much in the wild. even if it was 10-20 years, thats also a very long time and something that big shouldve have been taken out of the wild.

Yes we dont know the true age.

But it has a very low reproductive rate in the wild. Also what it does in a tank in perfect conditions & no predators vs on the reef is 2 different things.

Very nice nem Doni

100 years old? Doubtful. Growth rates in the wild for almost all of our critters are much higher than what we can provide.

Still, a carpet that big (and sexually mature, most probably) likely hosted dozens of clowns and would have been best left in the big tank.
