"You don't really need a skimmer, if you point a couple powerheads at the surface of the water, the froth works just as well"

Him: "Just a bucket of salt and this Skilter Filter. Everything else you have will work fine."

Really. Seriously. To a current customer from their former shop. Dory nemo and their buddy are all rescued and things are fine for the now happy customer.

Me: Is this Naso tang a female or Male? LFS: Shes a girl we consider these guys down here(pointing to the triggers and lion fishes) the boys and the nice fish (like the tangs & clowns) are the girls.
Most people know male naso tangs grow streamers whereas the females are more plain

The is a customer buying a large snowflake eel and says he hopes it pair with the current one he has in his tank..
I ask: What size tank do you currently have? He replies a 55. The LFS owner quickly replies(she knows I will give correct info): He has plenty of room for what he keeps. To this I ask what do you have in your 55. Well.....I have a snowflake, niger triger, dogface puffer and I am buying a black voltains lion, 2nd snowflake, and a picasso triger.
The owner gave me an ugly look, and quickly ask the customer to take the bags to the counter.

Even working at an LFS, I in trouble. I am mixing saltwater RO to 1.025-6 and he comes and tells me "why are you wasting my salt??!! Nobody keeps their tanks that high. Are you trying to kill something?" I especially love his view on protein skimmers-"How can that skimmer (Deltec, which we don't carry) really make that much more difference than this one (seaclone 100)?" I just nod and keep doing what I am doing.

Well, you don't need live rock either, but it sure as hell makes things much easier.

I love my LFS they are very knowledgeable until they hire a newbie and for the first week or so theyare totally lost when you ask them to get a particular whole coral or frag.

new emplyee "do you need help?"
me "yes, I want some frags"
new employee "which ones do you want?"
me "that octo frag, hammer frag and orange zoo frag"
new employee "point to the ones that those are"
me "are you serious?"

I roll my eyes and look over at the owner who is laughing at me he then sends over one of the long time employees to help me while the new guy watches the owner appologized to me and gave me an additional discount on the frags

Me: How much is that 2" frag of Green Star Polyps?

LFS: $35.99

Me: How much is that Candy Cane Coral Colony?

LFS: Oh that ugly thing..... I don't know would you give me $10?

Guy was at counter with his two young kids telling Owner of LFS how his 120gal reef tank crashed and how he had to put locks on his tanks cabinets. I asked why he had to put locks? He responded by saying "Who would have thought that corals don't like cherry coolaid?" His son (age 5 or so) had dumped 1gal of freshly made super sugary coolaid in his sump. Killing all fish and corals.

He is now putting Goldfish in the tank until his son gets older.
