Hey I tell you what if He is willing to talk to me then fine

Didn't Mark say that you already talked to him? If you didn't talk to Pierre then I would love to know who you did talk to.

I actually know a gas station owner and they make 3 cents per gallon just to let you know

I know how much profit is in gas. I managed a gas station for a couple years. If you are right, then how come the same truck delivers gas to 2 stations owned by the same company but they charge a different price for the same gas? One just happens to be in an area that will bring in a better price. They make the real profit from the dry goods inside the station. That is why CC thought it was ok to screw deaterk and charge the price he did. He was the only game in town at the time.

The metal industry does it all the time. The distributor pays x amount for sheets of metal that they keep in stock. If the price of metal goes down cheaper than they originally purchased it at they still have to ask the higher price on those sheets. It also works the other way around, if they buy low and metal goes up they charge low for those sheets. It pays to shop around. Not for everything but for sure in the metal industry.
Regards,
Doug

Not sure what type of metal you are referring to but my company purchases tons of stainless steel (tube and sheet metal) and the price that is charged is the price that market is at the time of shipping. It makes no difference what they paid for it only what the market is at the time it ships. We could place an order at the price quoted today and when it ships in a week or two it will be a different price higher or lower depending on the market.
I have also managed retail stores for many years and yes it is common to re-price product based on the replacement cost but only if it is the exact same product. In normal circumstances that does not apply if the product has been changed in anyway. Being an older model the price should have stayed the same not gone up to the new price.

I don't think he did this to "screw deaterk". Its not like he saw him coming than ran over there and added some new prices. The new prices were set before he went into the store. You should not have bought it man if this is how you felt about it. its just as much his fault for having high prices as it is yours for paying for it. This is just how I see it looking in from the outside. I am not trying to anger you or vote one side or another, but i just don't think its very fair of you to get on here and bash a LFS that is actually helping preserve the hobby we all love so much when you bought the product knowing exactly how much you were paying for it. Its just as much your fault for buying it as it is his for selling it.

All of this is absolutely ridiculous. If you don't like one store then don't go to it; plain and simple.

Everyone has their own opinions about LFS and the people that work there and that's the way it should remain your OWN.

Helping preserve the hobby ????

Let's just say for a moment that deaterk wasn't really sure how much the pumps really cost. He needed one and went to a store he thought he trusted. Then finds out what the real deal is.

Folks, are you really willing to throw your $$ away to someone who is more than happy to make 150% profit from an ill-informed consumer?

I got some Swamp Land for ya.....at a great price. :bum:

Well ya I know.I just think its f&&&&& stupid to put 375 over a 240 OLD PUMP I had ta do what I had ta do my REEF Is MY KID!!!!

Then people should do some research on product and how much it costs before they decide to purchase and if they know the price and don't like it, don't buy it and stop complaining about it.

Although I'm not a fan of high prices, with Coral Corral's amount of livestock and overhead, I can understand having to charge a bit more for dry goods. Gotta pay the rent somehow and as far as corals go, they are very competitive. Just saying...

I personsally dont see robbery I see supply and demand, wether you could get it cheaper or not, a store isnt required to match anyone elses prices.
No, a store isn't required to match prices. No, there wasn't a robbery committed. But, IMHO, what did happen is an (a) LFS acted in a way that very strongly raises the question of whether or not they value their reputation and have any interest, at all, in providing good customer service.

In the end, it's up to them. Of course their success, as a business, may very well depend on the bad "press" that incidences like this cause.

Who cares! Whats done is done, you sound like a whining crybaby! Like this is the first time you have ever been ripped off.

Move on with life and use the pump! There are worse things in life to worry about! Dont go there anymore if you dont like it. if you wouldnt have paid that amount you would have paid alot more in dead livestock. So look at it as saving a ton of money and time!!!!!!!!!!

You're right, not much time, but from the looks of it he's got a lot of friends in the hobby that would prob be more than happy to lend him one till he could go to a different LFS that has the pump at a more competitive price.

By the way, I have had a pump go out on me and wasn't able to get a new one for a couple of days. NOT something that I wanted to do or would I recommend it, but everything in my tank survived and I moved on. I now have a back up for that reason.

And what if Pierre wasn't open?? What would have happened then?? Would he complain that he wasn't open so he couldn't buy a pump?
