Lighting 250 MH and vho question

Giovanni

AKA Flippa
My tank is 36 x 18 x 25, oceanic 70RR. I have just purchased an IceCap 250 MH balast and a pfo mini and thinking of a 10k bulb for PAR. I have an IceCap 430 also. Some SPS, Clams, LPS, ton o softies. I was also thiking of running a 95watt 10k or two on the IceCap also to simulate sun up and sun down. I can only run 3 bulbs on the 430. The actinics I was thinking of running were URI 95watt VHOs.

Questions

1 How much actinic lighting is recommended for the 10K 250 MH?

2 Should I go with one actinic and two 10k or two actinic and one 10K on the IceCap?

I've ran 2 VHO actinics with 10k and it was nice, although if you can run 3 VHO's, I'd probably run all actinics.

Also, some 10k seem to be 'yellower' than others so bulb choice might determine how many VHO as well.

Don't think you'll be unhappy running either 2 or 3 though.

If you just doing it for a sun up/down, why not run all 10k. That way you get the highest PAR. If you running it for looks....to put in some blue along with the 10K MH, then I would run atleast 2 actinics, if not all 3.

i have almost the same tank you have, and i run 4x95watt VHO actinics with 10k MH's, and couldnt be happier with the way the tank looks.

You could also run 2 actinics and 1 actinic day or 50/50 whatever they call it. URIs 10k looks a little pink anymore to me.

guido_kp,

My tank is only 36" long, 25" deep and not the 48" I bet yours is. I say this because I was going with a single 250watt MH. Do you think this will be OK? So I will have a total of 535 watts.

You work a specialized ICU or a generalized ICU? My hospital is small so we get it all; Kids, fresh hearts, EVVH you name it. If we ship them it is to a big city like Nashville, TN with a specialized unit. Gota love it!

Love your UN. You must have grown up with about the same time I did. Bet your are a big fan of Risky business and top gun.

yeah, mines a standard 4 ' tank. i would think it would be plenty to do it the way you proposed.

its a generalized icu, so we get it all. well, no fresh hearts or anything cool like that. most of the kids get shipped out, unless the ghetto birds are grounded for inclement weather. we see some pretty cool stuff time to time. mostly ards/vents, septic shock, ami's stuff like that. we hope that there will be more cardiac interventions in the future.

yup, thems great movies!
