lighting help

im not 100% sure that light is enough for a 40 gallon tbh, a 250 certainely would be, however that would be fine for soft corals for sure, but there may be dark spots for harder to keep corals which need more light, just my view.

If your 40g is 16" to 18" deep, it would be fine for most things, especially directly under the light; I'd have some concerns about the mounting apparatus based on the reviews on that site and what's been posted here.

Also, at $300, you're getting into a price range that would allow you to buy great used fixtures, say a pair of 175's and ballasts, or a rack of T5's- in a DIY project that would give significantly more light and no worries about keeping anything you want.

you should be able to keep anything you want. I would recomend getting some sort of t5 fixture. Not as much heat and still able to keep most corals.
