LR3 is selling for $149 shipped from Amazon right now. Not sure how long this deal will last and doubt it will go lower (ok, it was actually $125 a few days ago but not likely that will come back). This is your chance to grab it at a great price. Go cyber monday!

I upgraded to CS5 today, $50 off the normal price which is cool.

I'm still debating about LR3. I know I dont NEED it, but it would be nice. I havent seen anything yet that makes me think I have to have it.

Sure. The camera RAW tools are identical in function. What Lightroom gives me is workflow. I handles my import, keywording, sorting/rating, organization and printing in addition to RAW conversion; all in one application.

If you've got a system in place that works for you, there's not a bunch of benefit. If not, or if RAW processing scares you, then I whole-heartedly recommend it.

That's mainly what I read about is that LR gives you a system for organizing and quickly working with lots of photos, and it's non destructive to the original photo which is great.

I think if I was doing photography professionally I'd be down with LR in a heartbeat, however, being just an amateur I dont need it. Although with as many baby pictures as I'm racking up it would be nice to have LR for the organizing. My system works so far but as I get more and more files it might break down, time will tell :)

+1 I love it for its workflow capabilities! I need to keep my photos organized or I would go crazy!! Also, it's nice not having to go to CS5 every time I want I just want to do RAW processing or minor adjustments.

So did mine, until it failed. Do it now, before it becomes insane. I actually got LR because after dong this well over 10 years I was finally having trouble finding images. It became a real pain when I wanted a specific photo for my website or because someone requested it and it took me forever to find it. Sometimes I still come across images I forgot about in deep folders!

I bought LR because it finally became apparent I needed it (for organization purposes really - but the noise reduction is awesome too). Now it is such a daunting task I haven't got much of a catalog yet. Do it sooner than later is my recommendation (kind of like the one to go to FF sensor :) - which one of your last posts said "I wish I did this 2 years ago" or something to that effect ;)).

Seriously, do it now, you'll be glad down the road, I promise you that.

From one amateur to another - lightroom has completely replaced photoshop for me. on top of the organizational tools that others have already explained, it also has all of the basic post-processing needs right at your fingertips - color adjustment, cropping and rotating, spot removal, vignetting, etc. etc. etc. I just bought a new computer recently, and I haven't even installed PS because I literally do everything in LR now.

Funny this is on here...I just bought Lightroom 3 for my Wife (she played on the 30 day trial period and loved it)

It is still $179.99 on Newegg.com and $169.99 on Amazon, though it could take 1-4 weeks for delivery it says. Staples has it for $149.99 but it sold out right now.

Hope this helps!

Hmmm, I was just looking on Amazon and it showed up as $320... I'll look again.

edit - Yeah, other sellers on Amazon, including Amazon itself, have it for sale at $160 now. I wonder why the main price they list is the $320 one, that's odd.

Yah, the $320 fooled me on Amazon too...I think that was a random mistake on their part. I just got mine off Newegg because I needed it shipped quicker (they have free 3-day shipping).

that the leap, JUMP, JUMP NOW :)!

I'm almost there, the issue is I just bought MS Office 2010 and CS5 yesterday, so I'm trying to not spend more than a couple hundred dollars a month on computer stuff and I already blew it ;)

Take MS Office back, you don't need that... lol

Or you can look at it as, you already blew the limit, why stop now? lol

If you buy it online and are waiting for shipping you can download the 30 day trial from Adobe and enter your authorization code when your delivery gets there. It's a full version so there's nothing to lose and it can save you a few bucks vs. paying for faster shipping. Just in case anyone wasn't aware....

Ding, ding, ding :). We have a winner :).

Adobe is good like that. When I picked up CS4 last year, my stupid dvd drive had issues reading the disc. I didn't want to return the program as I got it at like half price. The Adobe customer service rep suggested I download the full thing and enter my product's code. Worked great.

I can see where the organization provided by LightRoom could be very useful. I don't have zillions of images to catalog (yet), but I can see how over time working with the system would yield an organized library, instead of a mishmash of images and assorted folders which would be very tedious to sort out at that point.

LR isn't just PS with built-in organization. It's designed for photography.

Ever shoot 50 shots of your aquarium and then have to white balance all of them? With LR, adjust one, apply the change to the other 50 in under 3 seconds (or an other shot you take of the tank under the same lights).

Same for dust spots. I still use PS because there are things I can do there that I can't do in LR, but if I had to pick a software to be without? It'd be PS. I NEED LR.
