When I first started the tank, I just ran the Vortechs - one was on the right side near the front, and the second was on the left side, near the rear of the tank. That created a very nice clockwise flow, and I was able to run the MP40W's wide open without disturbing the sand bed.
Now I have the CL running, which generally pushes water counter-clockwise. The only disturbance to the sand bed is where the flow of the CL and Vortechs "collide", creating a lot of turbulence and exposing the tank bottom in a 6" circle along the back wall...I plan to fine tune the CL this week, add a few more peices of LR and see if I can get it worked out the way I want it...

That's interesting. Are you using a coarse gravel as opposed to sand?

George I decided to scratch my idea of a 24" x 24" x18" frag tank, I have something much more nontraditional in mind, it ain't fun if it's easy right?

I still love the dimensions on yours though:D

I am experiencing annoying cyano on some of the LR. I'm going to get in there with a siphon hose and a filter sock and suck as much as I can off the rock... I will also kick up the output of the closed loop slowly...it's only running at about 1/2 capacity right now...

George, I am having a problem with the web camera, see if you can help me. I click the link and a blue page pops up: Panaonic network camera, but I can't get a pic. Do you have a clue as to what I am doing wrong, lol, I want to get this working.

Up at the top of the page, select "single" and it should take you to the camera...

Let me know if that doesn't work...

Is that an MP10 on the frag tank? Looks like your getting some good flow in there...

I went through my box of lost toys and found a pair of Koralia 1 and a Koralia 2 powerhead. I stuck them in there to supplement the Mag 7 return pump.

I plan on putting down a thin layer of Seaflor sand covered by another thin layer of medium grade crushed coral media that will encourage floating zoanthids to attach...

I'll start putting coral in as soon as I get some T5's over the tank. If I can't find the right fixture, I'll build up a 4 x 24w T5 Retrokit like I used over the DT.

what did you use for reflectors on your lights?

I used IceCap SLR individual parabolic reflectors for each bulb made from 96% German reflective aluminum. They clip on to the individual bulb.

Here is a link to where I purchased the retrokits:

Here is a link to the build and installtion of the light system:
The light system is found starting about half way down this page and following...

Update

Update

I couldn't locate a used 24" T5 fixture (or retrokits) locally, so will be ordering 4x24w IceCap kits from ReekGeeks later today. They are the same kits I used over the DT, except the DT has 24x54W lights. :D

I need to go over to the T5 Q&A thread to get some advice for the bulb selection.

The fishroom is rapidly approaching floor space saturation... the treadmill takes a lot of space, but it has to stay there... The automatic kitty box is the final addition. (One of the sacrifices demanded by Ms. LL) ;)
