What did you use for your background? It looks like Travertine... or stone looking ceramic tiles.

Was going to look at your build thread, but no little red house. ( hint.. hint.. =) )

I have been following his thread for a while... here is a link to it:

Great thread...I just finished catching up on your progress. Everything looks great and I bet you can't wait to fill her up. Your light rack is amazing. My wallet would be very afraid when it is time to replace bulbs lol.

If you fire up the Reeflo pumps and find any leaks I would use silicone on the threads and let dry for 24 hours. I made the mistake of using teflon tape and over tightening. I ended up cracking it. It's a tip I learned from mflamb.

Fortunately I can time the useage of the bulbs, and won't have to replace them all at one time. Some bulbs will burn much longer than others... That's my story, and I'm sticking to it... :D

Good point on the Reeflo threads...What kind of silicone did you use on the threads? Just your standard clear silicone? While I plan to use teflon tape, I was also going to use teflon paste... which I understand will work together nicely to minimize leaks in PVC threaded joints.

Thoughts?

I just used aquarium clear silicone and hand tightened. The paste should work fine too! My problem was that I was trying to be superman with the wrench and busted the outlet on the pump...DOH!

You might try the pink teflon tape it's a heavy duty tape for high pressure applications. Should be right next to the regular white and yellow tape (for gas) at Lowes in the plumbing dept. I don't work there any more but I remember helping you out a couple times when you came in looking for pvc unions and such.

Looking Good! (Subscribed to the thread)

Thanks for the tip...

I'll look for it to use on the pressure side fittings... can I use the teflon paste with it?

LL

I would just use one or the other using both tends to get messy and really shouldn't give any extra protection. I always over wrap the teflon a couple times plus it's cheap, clean, and have never had any problems with it.

The trick is to get one end on the stand first. That takes a huge load off the rest of the people and tank. Then move those people to the other side and have someone guide the tank. The tank slides around pretty easy on the stand decking.

Here is the tank entering the hole:

Thanks for the tip. Our stand height is 40", plus the slab in the fish room is elevated 4" above the adjacent floor level. That's a vertical of 44". (Insert grunting sound here)

We should have a lot of help, including some pretty big dudes...I may skip the material lift, because the biggest one is rated at 650 pounds, and we know that the tank weighs 750. I did the math, and there's a negative in there... In addition, the lift might just get in the way of sliding the tank onto the stand...

And while Darien (PeaceinUSA) stabilized the stand, the crew slid the tank into position...

I just found it really funny when I saw that. Good work! You are moving along so fast....not fair :sad1:

When I did my plumbing I used sch 80 fittings and I found with the sch 80 when I used teflon tape even the pink one I had a few drips here and there,so I used teflon paste on the male and female threads with no teflon tape and I had no leaks at all with the teflon paste. On my older tanks when I used sch 40 fittings the teflon tape seemed to work fine, but when I went to sch80 bulk heads and fittings I used the teflon paste insted because a couple of the threads leaked. I also only made them as tight as I can with my hands no wrenches.

George,

The Reeflo shouldnt need any tape since the pump is already mounted to the elbows. The other joints are unions are just hand tight screwed on.

I had no leaks on it when it was in use here.

The Reeflo he was referring to is the Barracuda Gold pump - not the Orca 250. Apparently the "soft" female threads on the pump have a history of cracking if tightened too much...

I am a quick learner, Mammoth!

That's why we didn't rent a material lift... We had lots of help from our local Marine Society, and lots of large glass clamps! :D

Hmmmm.... am I feelin' lucky? ;)

All of my pressure side threaded connections are schedule 80. I have schedule 40 fittings on some slip threads...but I can deal with those...

Thanks for the tips on flexible PVC.
