That looks like a Eunicid worm. (but I'm no expert)

That is exactly what I was thinking... there we two of them in that little polyp colony - fortunately located and disposed of before the got four feet long... ;)

Thanks

Thanks

Thanks Tony, Lynn and kingsland! I am on the way out the door to wash several 40# bags of sand...

Ed, I left you a PM, see you later today?

Geting there...

Geting there...

All but one bag of sand is in the display tank - the last bag will be distributed in that right front corner. (I'm just taking a break) As usual, I bought one bag sand too many... :p

Here's the obligatory, "I put sand in my tank, it's so cloudy, I hope it clears up" picture:

...and here is the Rubbermaid sump which looked like the display tank just 24 hours ago...

There is about 4" in the sump so far...the rest of the DSB will come from the 180G.

The sump cleared up just with the circulation from a MaxiJet 1200. I hope the display clears up as well during the day, because some fish are going to have to go in there tonight. The 120G will be completely torn down by late today, ready for skiformance!

Later today, I will start the same process on the 180G. The 180G will be the source of saltwater to complete filling the new tank. When that is accomplished, I will be able to start circulating the water through the entire filtration system, including the Orca 250 skimmer...

Your cat loves the camea. BTW did you soak or rainse your sand?

Rinsed....then rinsed some more. Followed the directions on the bag...kept rinsing vigorously until the rinsing water was just a little cloudy - then drained for at least 1/2 hour.

Things that go bump in the night...

You've seen my bristleworm party...

I found another couple of interesting guys under the 120G live rock - here is a picture of one...

and the same crab out of the water for a mug shot:

He was about 1.5" across MOL. Gorilla crab? Anyway, they're not going to the new tank...not even in the sump.

Credit where due...

Credit where due...

We opened this thread on May 16, 2009. On June 20, 2009, we took possession of the new tank, thanks to nearly 20 good friends from our local club, COMAS ( www.mycomas.com ) As of this morning, July 12, there have been 631 posts and over 22,000 views on the thread.

I want to thank every RC member who has participated and invite you to keep coming back as the saga continues. When you view the thread, please leave a reply letting me know you've been here, and any comments that come to mind. I try to keep the thread light and a quick read with lots of photos...especially featuring our other pets (feline) who share the aquarium with us.

Finally in this note, but first in my heart, I want to thank Ms. LL, who purchased my first saltwater tank (complete 95G Oceanic Wave Tank) as a birthday present for me in 2007. She is so encouraging and supportive in this effort. In fact, the through the wall tank was her idea. What a wonderful lady!

Sincerely,

LL

July 11 progress

July 11 progress

We continued aquascaping on July 11. I have been taught to aquascape from the tank bottom up. I lay my base rock directly on the tank bottom, before adding sand. The theory is that of you lay rock on shifting sand, the rock might collapse and crush any sand sifters or sand sleepers under there...always made sense to me.

We posted some earlier pictures of the base rock and the cloudy tank from laying down 300# of CaribSea sand. Here are more of our efforts last night as we tweaked the 'scaping and tried to obscure the closed loop strainers and return ports.

LL up to his elbows in saltwater! Just the way, just the way I like it, uh huh!

Right side centerpiece is that large toadstool mushroom that the ocellaris clowns have hosted in for over a year...

More rock moving and rearrangment.

My goal is to have appearance of depth in the tank by arranging three islands to hide the CL plumbing in a front to back setting rather than side to side across the front of the tank. I want three distinct separations in the rock with lots of swimming room in between. No rock is touching the back wall, so the fish will be able to swim behind, in and through all formations.

I have two rocks covered with pulsating xenia and GSP. I debated whether to even put them in the tank. I decided to use them - because I like the motion and color of these "weed" corals. I made the effort to place them apart from other rocks, so the coral couldn't spread off their current locations. (Like planting bamboo)

Again, thanks for your comments and observations. I am going to finish filling up the new tank and start tearing down the 180G today and tomorrow.

I still have to build that water change system! and program the Apex controller when it gets here...and do the wood trim over the tank and stand... you get the picture...

I sent you a PM on the tank, stand, sump and other stuff. It's ready when you are.

Very nice update. Your cat looks too interested :p

He's harmless enough... he's one that Ms. LL and I hand-raised from birth. He jumped on a 32G Brute barrel filled with RO/DI a few months back. The lid flipped like a tiddly-wink and into the water he went... ever since then, he is very cautious around the wet stuff...
