July 11 progress
July 11 progress
We continued aquascaping on July 11. I have been taught to aquascape from the tank bottom up. I lay my base rock directly on the tank bottom, before adding sand. The theory is that of you lay rock on shifting sand, the rock might collapse and crush any sand sifters or sand sleepers under there...always made sense to me.
We posted some earlier pictures of the base rock and the cloudy tank from laying down 300# of CaribSea sand. Here are more of our efforts last night as we tweaked the 'scaping and tried to obscure the closed loop strainers and return ports.
LL up to his elbows in saltwater! Just the way, just the way I like it, uh huh!
Right side centerpiece is that large toadstool mushroom that the ocellaris clowns have hosted in for over a year...
More rock moving and rearrangment.
My goal is to have appearance of depth in the tank by arranging three islands to hide the CL plumbing in a front to back setting rather than side to side across the front of the tank. I want three distinct separations in the rock with lots of swimming room in between. No rock is touching the back wall, so the fish will be able to swim behind, in and through all formations.
I have two rocks covered with pulsating xenia and GSP. I debated whether to even put them in the tank. I decided to use them - because I like the motion and color of these "weed" corals. I made the effort to place them apart from other rocks, so the coral couldn't spread off their current locations. (Like planting bamboo)
Again, thanks for your comments and observations. I am going to finish filling up the new tank and start tearing down the 180G today and tomorrow.
