You know, it would look awesome painted white to match your entertainment center...that would really tie the tank in with the room.

We have been considering that - I'm leaving that decision to Ms. LL.

The finish on the entertainment center is actually MinWax white wash. We'll see what the decorator decides... :D

Both have great ideas as I read....

Either the white wash or the clear coat over the red oak would look great.

Missed a great feast last night in northern Maine. 18 - 2 1/2 lb lobster and 20 lbs of clams with plenty of corn on the cob all cooked outdoors in open kettles. I can still barely sit up.

Steak and Catfish Barn has awesome catfish. It is a hole in the wall place at I-35 and Waterloo Road.

Happy B-Day!

Been there, did that... we liked it, too.

I got caught up on your build thread rather quickly very nice job!

Like a comic book - short dialogue with lots of pictures! :D

Answered your PM about Acrylic & Glass Exhibits, who manufactured our tank in Garland, TX.

FTS July 28, 2009

FTS July 28, 2009

By combining the populations of our previous 120G and 180G tanks, we have a colorful active cross section of fish...

Occupants include:

1 Magnificent Foxface Rabbitfish
1 Blue Hippo Tang
1 Yellow Tang
1 DesJardins Sailfin Tang
1 Diamond Watchman Goby
1 Copperband Butterfly
1 Coral Beauty
1 Christmas Wrasse
1 Yellow Coris Wrasse
1 Bangaii Cardinalfish
1 Green Chromis
2 Black/White Ocellaris clowns
2 Orange/White Ocellaris clowns
2 Diamondhead Anthias
3 Red firefish
2 Green Mandarin (M/F)

Most of the fish are still relatively small, but there is a great deal of activity in the tank at all times...

Always something to look at, as the fish explore the many caves and holes in their new ocean...

The next FTS will look considerably different, as the upper door panels will be installed within the week and will conceal all the clutter of the T5 system...

The above FTS were taken with 24x 54W T5 bulbs burning...this is full power for the light system. PAR readings will be taken later this week.

At this stage, I can't wait to get up every morning to make sure there are no leaks or overflows :D

Every uneventful day is a blessing... ;)

Just wondering about this question, as I hope to have a tank one day about the same size. Do you find since you have the tank all hooked up, is your room with your lights and all the equipment big enough or do you think the room needs to be a bit bigger or just the right size, and what size is the room? Also, how many wall sockets did you end up needing in the room to supply power to all the equipment? In retrospect, anything you would do differant?

Good questions all!

I find that for my purposes, our fish room turned out to be a perfect size. It was pure dumb luck, because it was just a converted office space which was a converted covered patio.

My only wish is that we had a sink and drain in the room. As you may have noticed, we bring water into the room through 1/4" tubing for the RO/DI filter, and waste water flows through an exterior wall into a sewer cleanout pipe. Our room is 10x14. The rear of the tank extends just 24" into the fish room, so there's lots of room to move around, storage, etc.

There were already four sockets in the room before we began the remodel. They are all tied into an existing circuit, so I did not want the high current pumps relying on those plugs.

We added just three plugs from one shared and two dedicated circuits to the tank room. We have approximately 60 Amps capacity in the room.

I will be using an Apex controller and related "energy bars" for almost all of the equipment, so it was unnecessary to install a wall full of plugs like you see in some build projects. I just needed sufficient plugs for the bars.

All plugs are GFCI protected. I also use grounding probes in the tank.
