Mine doesn't arrive until later today...however, here is a great link from a knowledgable user: http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1673987

Good luck.

By the way,

Slept soundly with the window open last night, 50 degrees. Should be all the way up to 78 degrees today.

Howdy from the woods of rural Maine !!!!!

When will you be heading south?

Everything looks great. Looks like your having fun.

Busy, busy weekend - probably the busiest since we installed the tank and stand on June 20...

1.) Glue and test the water change system plumbing
2.) Complete the front wood trim and light cover.
3.) Install the Apex Controller.

Other than that, not much happening... :D

See ya next week.

1.) Glue and test the water change system plumbing - COMPLETED, filling right side tank with RO/DI overnight...

2.) Install the Apex Controller. (Saturday morning - will post pictures)

3.) Complete the front wood trim and light cover. (Saturday afternoon when my cabinet building bud PeaceinUSA gets here...) :D

now that is a predator tank!

I'd be concerned about the little guy on the bottom blowing all those air bubbles... obvious weak link in the tank... ;)

Neptune Systems Apex controller

Neptune Systems Apex controller

Well it arrived yesterday...

I restrained myself from ripping open the box, until this morning...

The Apex basic system includes the control module, display unit, PH probe, temperature probe, EB8 Energy Bar and various connecting cables.

Where to begin... I am working on a schematic on what I want to control and how to set them up. Then I'll look at where to locate the control module and other components. Fortunately our internet modem and routers are located in the fish room...so network connections should be simple.

Oh, that nice. I likey. I think that's the Ph probe, maybe the ORP? What all, meter wise, did you get?

The initial order was for the basic Apex unit, as listed in the above post. The PH and Temp sensors are included. Additional PH probes can be ordered. I think the ORP probe is pending sale for the Apex. I will need additional Energy Bars (sounds like a sports snack!) which can be controlled almost infinitely by the Apex.

There are more details on the website than I can provide, because I'm still learning...

Are extra energy bars even avaible yet?

The word is they are expected in about two weeks... I'm on a list. The old DC8 and DC4 bars can be used; they just lack some of the functions of the new Apex models...

Progress

Progress

I got up early and water tested the water change system under pressure... I actually found one fitting that I had overlooked an important step: primer and glue! :eek2:

That didn't take long to remedy, thanks to the generous placement of double unions and d.u. valves. I glued the dry socket and continued to make RO/DI in the right tank.

After giving the PVC glue time to cure, I then began mixing new saltwater in the left tank...

Here is the system this evening -

about 40G saltwater on the left (stirred not shaken by the Blueline pump)

and still making RO/DI in the right.

I'll be making the first water change with the new system tomorrow...

Thanks very much for stopping by. I'll chronicle my Apex efforts - from a newbie's standpoint - this is our first full system controller...

Frame and trim

Frame and trim

The goal was to make our tank appear like "living art" in the wall of our living room...

Today, my friend PeaceinUSA and I installed the trim that frames the tank. The only thing missing is door panels across the top which will match the panels under the tank. I could not order those panels until the above-tank frame was installed.

Here is today's handi-work:

Right side, with the kitty "condo" closeby to allow fish viewing by our feline friends:

We will be installing a 20" strip of tile in front of the tank, (where the carpet is currently pulled back.) Better to spill a little SW on tile rather than the Berber carpet... ;)

It didn't take long for the fish cat and his sister to find the new path above the tank...

note the lighthouse replicas - why we are called "lightsluvr"...
