Lily Dale

I'm pretty synical about most things, but I've seen and heard things from a person that is a trusted family friend since her birth. She has nothing to gain from her "feelings" or "signals". The stuff she pulls out of thin air is nothing less than miraculous. It's no party trick and she is frankly embarrassed by a lot of it. But it is what it is. You either buy it, or you don't. I'm smart enough to know I don't know everything and there just MIGHT be some stuff out there we can't explain.
I'd love to meet her :)

I grew up pretty close to Lilydale, and the general concensus amongst the folks around there are probably 20-25% really believe that it is something amazing/special and most of the rest believe that there is a lot of tom-foolery going on. I know a lot of people that have went there and I attribute a lot of the "benefit" they got to either a placebo effect or people telling them what they wanted to here. Thats not directed at anyone here and its just my personal observation.

I remember seeing a community like this on a tv show last week about unusual towns. Any chance that was Lilydale? I sort of remember it being in the south but wasnt paying close attention

I guess we can compare this to the belief in a god. Most people who debunk "spirtualists" also question the existence of religions. This obviously isn't always the case, and sometimes it's the other way around. This is bringing me back to all of my Human Psychology and Sociology classes! 2 years of studying Human Behavior/Belief's is actually the a very good eye opener to why humans are humans, it's fantastic. I would recommend it!

i'd check it out. i had a reading from a guy in korea. the medium was knock down drunk. almost punched him before his friend who spoke english talked me out of it. he was dead on about me getting married, wife's profession, number of kids, multiple miscarriges, wife's cancer, money situation, etc. even mentioned the large scar my wife would receive after we were married.

Wow, lightning rod of a topic.

I personally try to steer clear of extremists one way or the other. I can't say "it's all crap", but at the same time, I don't run out and build an alter out of crystals and unicorn horns.

It is my opinion that you'll get through life a lot easier if you're open minded.

Unicorn horns?! Really now Mark!!

I agree though, it seems that an open mind will keep you at peace. Has been proven over and over again. But the best part is, there is always the question. What if?

I dont think having a well-informed opinion on the matter in either direction makes you a 'close minded' individual. Personally I dont believe in this type of stuff and likely never will, but I have complete respect of others' differing opinions on the matter. And its always an interesting debate. Intolerance is far worse than choosing a side

On the other hand, I believe there is most likely life on other planets, and I'm sure more than a few people would call me a wacko for that notion (not that I think there have been alien abductions and government coverups... those people really are wacko :p)

I'd have to say, it'd be pretty arrogant to assume in the entire vastness of our universe, and other universes, that we are the only ones. But now look what you've done Jay!

Road trip to Lily Dale!

You guys wanna come hunt UFOs in my back yard? I got tinfoil hats and secret government documents I bought from a hermit in Nevada

I dont want to get into any discussion about what I think or believe.

I take exception to a part of it as I have noclue what this place is and I know I will never go there.I will argue on the postive note that places such as the one being described are needed by some.
Guilt of the loss of someone close, missing persons,The "what if I","might still be alive"ect... ..replay mode and consuming thoughts can be so overwhelming they simply cannot function in life.Sometimes there are no straight answers for closure. When it comes down to extreme depression as it can often follow. I'd bet there will be an output for it in some form or another..(insert method of sedation here) , if a place such as Lily Dale is an alternative form and can help lend closure ,Im for it.

Read so many replys here I cant even remember what the question was, think Im on topic.LOL.

You guys go ahead and spend a weekend in an old empty castle in Ireland for a weekend. Doesn't mean you will believe in ghosts, but I'm sure you will have some "Well I can't explain that"...lol. It's all in fun. I use to take my residents when I was in college to Split Rock here near Syracuse, look it up online and read about it. The story of what happened is creepy. I have never seen anything there or heard anything. I walked through the tunnels by myself at night with no problem except for bonking my head on some old pipes.

I'm not sure exactly how this fits in, but think it does somehow. One of the most banned books in US Libraries are the Harry Potter books; is it because people don't want filling kids heads with nonsense, or they are afraid to?
