Lily's first reef! - updated

Oh he'll yeah!

But there are two species, one that works, one that don't!

Must be

Most Lfs say that they have this species when it's not!

Yes, don't mistake camel shrimp for peppermints. Slightly similar if you know the difference, not so much if you don't. True peppermints have always worked for me. Toss two in your tank and the aiptasia should be gone in no time.
Awesome! Thanks for the link of what it looks like Ralph.
Thanks Sugar i'm TOTALLY buying a couple.

Bite your tongue.

It isn't as bad as it sounds but it is annoying. My Aussie copperband solved the problem for me with my old 180, but the 29 isn't nearly big enough.

^ Yes exactly, it's annoying. I just gave my filefish to gemini aquarius(t) who is keeping it in a trashcan full of aiptasia rocks. He was a model citizen until about 6 months after he ate all the aiptasia. I think the lack of food for him to graze on made him more apt to eat whatever was in front of him, be it a zoanthid or worse...

Every once in a while I'll see a neon green hammer tentacle floating about, and I know there is only one fish that would have ripped it off :furious:

omg i'm having such a time of it with the tank.
I've got a blanket of cyano that i'm battling with since changing the lights.
Remember the new phoenix was so bright a couple corals started bleaching?
So we have that screen cover so the light is mote diffused.
Corals are better, but now the cyano has appeared and is growing.

Also, i have 13 aiptasia now, some of which are around 1/2" in diameter.
Most of them on or near my corals.
Bastards.
I am going to acquire those shrimp that you all gave me a link to a couple of pages back. I'm ordering them tonight.
And if those shrimp don't touch them, then i plan on acquiring one of those lasers.
And i need to keep ahead of this new cyano battle.
I'm not sure what i'm doing is right (manual removal every few days) but that's all i can think of.

Not feeling too good about my tank lately.

Okay, we just got my liveaquaria order.
2 of the shrimp from the link MysteryBox/Ralph gave above, for ridding my tank of 13 aiptasia that came up out of the blue all at the same time.
We're acclimating them now. It takes longer to acclimate invertabrate crustaceans, so the'yve only been acclimating in for 15 minutes.

And i also purchased a blue acropora tenius sps from them.
(heh heh)

lol, I took a pic of the blue tenius but haven't cropped or uploaded it yet. probably Tomorrow.

I'm SO scared to cut these palys off and put them on frag plugs.
I mean, do you cut and pull off as your cutting the mat around each polyp?
The colony as a whole is dying back because they're not getting enough light now since all the corals have grown.
But the (75) ones that are growing are 'trumpeting'. So they're stalks are HUGE. The stalks are 1/2"-3/4" in diameter. Palythoa do that when they're reaching for light.
So i'm SO scared to frag these. I have no idea what i'm doing.

Cut with sharp knife or scalpel, glue with super glue gel. Just do it. Have paper towels handy, wear surgical gloves, good to go.

I would also wear some eye protection just to be careful lol. I have seen a couple of crazy pictures when someone accidentally got some of the palies mucus in their eyes.

Oh thank God. Okay, i'm going to make sure i have all those items. Thanks so much Ralph! :)

Yikes i forgot about that, thanks for the reminder!

omg all my aiptasia are gone!
I bought two of those shrimp that Sugar and Ralph gave me a link to.
I had 13 aiptasia, mostly tiny ones but there six that were 3/4".
All of them are gone.
I barely put the shrimp in ten days ago.
They ROCK!

omg, my one 'fruit loop' zoa that is on a frag plug with a bunch of 'eagle eye' zoas, is now budding another one. I've been taking care that he gets fed along with the others. They are much slower growers than alot of other zoas. I will soon have two of those gorgeous things! They just knock me out.
Yesss! Thank you God.

Okay here's my new acro and peppermint shrimp :)
