I think what everyone wants to see is some sort of visual evidence. Not just my local petco guy told me or a guy I know. There 1800 number said this cis and qm

82 posts on a PETCO thread and I've been silent. A new record, but I can't holds out forever. Someone PM me when its over.

Now that this thread has been completely hijacked. I just wondered if any one had orderd from petco online. And/or if they use the same supplier that the big boys use.

Agreed... If you want to order from Petco, go ahead and do it. You don't need justification for something you will probably end up doing regardless of what is said about it. Some have their reasons for not getting much from Petco outside of the $1 per gallon sale on misc tanks, but those reasons aren't going to change anyone else's mind. If what you see in the Petco stores doesn't bother you, then give them your business. Just know what you are supporting.

Those that like LA, please continue to use it. Some folks don't mind paying extra for a little piece of mind in where they get their fish and who they support.

Whether they get their stuff from the same place, or not, if some people want to pay a little extra for an Acura instead of a Honda, then let them do it (just don't complain about the upfront price or maintenance cost). If some are happy with owning a Honda, let them do it (just don't complain when your paint fades a little prematurely, you have a few rattles, or the interior wears a little faster)...

Just know there is a line between just owning a reef tank with fish and supporting the hobby postitvely.

If it eats you up that bad, just get a business license, EIN, or whatever else is needed to declare yourself a business, and order directly from QM yourself.

Agreed, but don't compare Hondas to Petco!

I think the problem is that for most of us here, we think Petco and we imagine this:

I would much rather support good collection practices and responsible sellers (like LA) than get a few bucks off. You have obviously already made up your mind, so why drag out the subject? :headwally::deadhorse1:

Not saying you are wrong, or the LA folks are right. Just saying its up to you who you support and why. Perhaps someone who wants to give their businesses to Petco should just go to the source and ask Petco corporate.

If I owned Petco and got my fish from the same place as LA, it would be common knowledge and my main selling point. I'd also be a very visible and active sponsor of one of the largest online aquarium forums on the web as well. We've spent close to 100 0posts discussing this and still don't know. Just saying...

I would think as qm's largest customer that Kevin would know if qm was also selling to petco online. The intricate business dealings that come with selling the way liveaquaria does through qm would most likely mean a contract within the two companies that would make Kevin one of the people who would know if qm was double dipping with petco. In other words, I would suggest believing Kevin when he says that petco online does not buy from qm, because he would be one of the first know and honest when sharing that information... at least more honest than some faceless corporate person from a company that is extremely shady in its animal care and integrity.

I know there is a lot of bashing to Petco but I'll share my positive experience. The main aquatic Petco in the Twin Cities gets the majority of its fish livestock from Quality Marine. The manager of the department posts to our local clubs website every few days showing the current availability at QM. So if there is anything you are interested in you can order it direct from QM and have it added to Petcos order for the week.

I did this last week for a Flameback Angel and it came in today. During my lunch break I picked up the fish, still in the shipping bag, and brought it to my tank. So I got a huge discount on the fish, didn't have to pay shipping, it was healthy, and never introduced to the petco system.

Sounds like a great Petco.

Besides just bashing petco does anyone have any real stories about buying from petco online? I saw the one guy had a regal angel that he bought and seemed pretty happy. Vast majority of people commenting here are associating petco online with in store which people don't seem to understand are 100% different situations

You support who you support. I choose to give my money to a completely reputable source vs one that is ok in some stores and terrible in others. I rather support the store that has 10% loss vs. 30% as a company. The original poster asked if there was a difference between petco online and liveaquaria... And ultimately that is the difference no matter where they send the stuff out of.

Petco & Quality Marine make a great oxymoron.
