Hmart in Niles is selling live Octopuses for $15 a bag. There are two or three of 'em in a net bag and they are very much alive. They are obviously meant for human consumption but if you ever wanted to have one in your tank, why not? Obviously, you will need a dedicated tank for this. Now I am regretting not picking up a Petco 55 gallon tank for $55. Octopuses are so cool...

We have had members on Tonmo.com try but have never been successful saving them from the Asian market. Wow, Niles, never seen live there only frozen, hmmm. I think I'd try if I found a good candidate for rescue. These animals are handled very poorly. Even when handled well, mortality rate is high, especially this winter, more losses than usual. They are notoriously poor shippers. It is worth taking look though.

I should add if anyone is willing to take a shot, find out when they get their shipments in, and get a hold of one asap. This is what used to do when I purchased live blue crabs.

They usually have them for less than $20. And it looks like the delivery comes in on Thursdays. I am setting up a 125 gallon now and as soon as I transfer all my fish over to the new tank, I am going to get couple of them.

I applaud the efforts to save animals in deplorable conditions and what not but doesn't this just perpetuate the cycle long term? At least maintaining the demand... possibly increasing it. Don't know about this one.

They are being sold for food, I don't think people buying them to keep as pets is going to change their inventory sheet at all.

i was hoping the store in naperville would carry it too but I never see it. If It's not expensive, i would like to give it a try in my tank. Worse comes worst, if it doesn't make it, I will have grilled "calamari" for dinner:)

They are a temperate species, I believe they are being kept at H Mart in a tank near 50 degrees. They won't last long at reef temps.

I wouldn't mind buying a octopus from the asian market. Joong boo market is the closest thing to a h mart that i have. anyone know a better asian store in chicago?

thanks Jose, Im not taking offense to anything Matthew is posting. I guess having a octopus is pretty much a huge job. i was thinking about tossing it in my sump bit i think they need at least a 50g or more and a dedication to them.
