Ive never ordered Live rock online. Could anyone recommend a good place to purchase real nice Live rock. Would like it covered in Coraline as well as life. Doesn't have to be cheap, just good.

I figure I'll only need about 25lbs or so. Ideas or experiences? Please share..

I live in brighton and could sell you some if you want to come get it. Would be cheaper overall I think. PM me

What kind of live rock is it? I would really like some Fiji Live rock. Does it have a lot of Coraline color to it? I'm going to setup a small cube and I'm trying to avoid the algae stages.

Namyar I've been to your place ;).

Can anyone tell me if Millies shop sells coraline covered Live rock? I know they have live rock but I'm looking for color as well.

I have ordered live rock 4 times online. if you want super rock covered in everything including plants and coraline. i would go to gulfview. heres the issue if money isnt a problem go overnight and get it shipped with some water. i got mine and it was unbelievably loaded with stuff. im talkin plants, sponges, coraline, and even corals. yes corals. problem was i got it shipped ground and it took five days. oh i still have a clam attached alive but thats it. also it was a new tank. because its wild and covered in life and not cured it had apastia which pepperment shrimp solved. if your buying rock for a new aquarium mostly everything will die. If you want good rock cheap i would get it from namyar because local doesnt have shipping added and it will help establish.

Key thing is dont buy the gulfview without overnight and an established tank.

Of course just my opinion but LR is what keeps my tank awesome i have at least 2lbs per gallon.

Thanks for the input. The sand will be from my established tank. I have way more then enough in there. I know I'll get a cycle and some die off.

I'm just trying to avoid the dreaded HA outbreak. At least with good live rock I hope to avoid that. Am I wrong in my thinking here? If I'm bound to get it then I might not even go that route.

Agreed, Gulfview was absolutely amazing in terms of life and color. Cannot be beat!

I have never found any rock that did not need to be cured after shipping. There will be die-off. Fast shipping can cut down your cure time and save a lot of the life as moatdaddy said.

good liverock can help prevent a nuisance algae outbreak.

That being said, there's not much that guarantees that you will have an outbreak of nuisance algae if you purchase "bad" rock. Run GFO (or other phophate adsorber) and add herbivores to the aquarium. Keep PO4 low. Run a refugium. Use RO water.
Use all the tricks in the playbook and you can control nuisance algae. (You'll have to eventually reduce PO4 in order to prevent an outbreak of algae no matter what rock you use.)

I like the aforemetioned Gulfview rock for the life in/on it. (I'm sure they can email you photos of rock before purchase.)

Most of the rock coming out of Fiji is extremely nicely shaped (porous and easily stacked).

As long as you introduce a small amount of coralline into the system you can get your rock smothered in it by manipulating environmental conditions so when purchasing liverock I look for
#1) shape of the rock
#2) life in/on the rock

FWIW I'm a big fan of liverock. Good luck shopping around for it.

I think home curing is very important. I'd cure any purchased live rock even if it smells good for at least 2 weeks, preferably 4.,monitoring ammonia, nitrate and PO4 until near zero values were sustained for a week. You're best bet would be to get some rock from an established tank that has been running with low PO4 and nitrate for a while if you can find it.

Mixing some live rock with dry rock like that from brs works well too. Again though the dry rock still has organics and may have PO4 requiring a bleach bath and acid bath before adding it to the tank if you want to avoid leaching.

Using old sand can be treacherous since old sand can contain lots of nasty stuff which when it's sidturbed can caouse problems.

Darn just when I think I know stuff you fellas come in here and confuse the heck out of a guy ;)

Gary I can't run a refugium as this is going to be in AIO tank Cube. No sump. Also don't think I can run my dual reactor on it either.

I feel that is why it will be so important to get very "good" Live Rock. I plan on having only a few snails in the tank. It will only house Zoas, and Palys for now. No fish.
