Live Sand?

I have a 55 gal Octo tank with a very small Bimac. I have about two 1/2 inches of CC substrate. Can i place live sand over CC or do i need to remove the CC?

I prefer sand over CC.

The larger diameter grain of crushed coral will in the long run make a breeding ground for bristleworms. With a finer grain of sand there is less chance of left over bits of food falling between the grains. A few inches ontop may be ok, but in the long run... it may not be the best option for your tank.

ok should i keep the CC or remove it and put in live sand? I already have an outbreak of bristle worms, and thought adding the sand would kill them.

Imo i would remove the cc and replace it with ls. It wont help your population of worms but it will help with your nitrates in the long run.

I agree with the LS but try to make it a 3 to 4 inch DSB for better results.
