Anyone local go or know Dr. Dodge of fairmount /camillus vet clinic? I found out yesterday he is a reefaquarist himself. He is mainly interested in why we would choose to use interceptor and would really like some feedback on it.Hes a good guy ,im just not that knowlegable with this stuff but he want ed to talk about it.From the phone call I got yesterday ,...I dont know what to think now about this stuff.
Any of you locals interested or know him? PM me if you choose-Steve

Here is the original article by ORA's Dustin Dorton, who discovered the aquarium use for the Interceptor pill. Hope this helps!

I took a copy of this to my Vet when I was looking for an Rx for Interceptor. I also brought my camera with pix of my aquarium. She took it home, reviewed it, did further research and agreed to call in a prescription for me. I realize you're just looking for links for your Doc, but this might help others procure it should they happen to get these little buggers in their tank.

I also, can't stress enough, the importance of dosing 3 times! There's a high liklihood they'll come back if you don't!

He may be wondering why Interceptor® and not another Avermectin drug. Ivermectin® works just as well; its simply not as cost effective at the commercial price, even at the often very inflated price reef hobby people pay for only a couple tablets. Its also a little harder to dose as it needs to be dissolved into an alcohol, rather than crushed and swished. Here's some work I did, I stopped when I did a cost calculation. My other is a veterinarian, and puts up with my drug questions but always seems to help my understanding. http://hvreef.org/yabb/index.php?topic=13676.msg136221#new

Excellent.I believe thats the type info he is looking for.Ill print out all the links here and pass it along when I get a chance.

In short here my wife had app. the dogs shots.I had been telling her for a week to get some interceptor while she was there just as a "might need it someday".While Im at work she calls and he wants to talk about using interceptor."How and why".Seamed really interested and really wanted to dicuss anything I could tell him or info I could get him.

Thanks alot guys.

Tell him there is information on VIN, seems most vets don't really want to get involved mostly because it may be hard for them to visualize a reef tank as a patient for their records. This doesn't pertain to this post, but in my research if someone has a hard time getting a vet to sell them interceptor, the best way to persuade them is to bring in a piece of acro that has rb's; there is nothing more convincing than having an animal w/parasites in hand. It may be harder getting on their records for profilactic reasons even if you are a good client. That your vet is a salt water keeper is very promising.

Hey thanks for the kind offer Mark but no I dont need any interceptor.I really dont have any issue but the topic of white bugs scares me and thinking if the wife an appointment for the dogs why not see if she could get ahold of some interceptor while she was at it.I had no idea the vet was an aquarist and was a bit taken back when he asked jen if she could call me at work.He doesnt have any first hand experience with using interceptor he just wanted to get some feedback or whatever info I could get him.He did seam really interested ,my reason for the post.I wasn't about to engage in a discussion with someone not really knowing myself what to look for or any treatment protocol to follow.
So, you guys chiming here has been a great help and I will pass the info along to him at some point.
I will probably mention he should talk to the abc reef crew ,much more knowledgable with a topic such as this than me with no real first hand experience.

I probably should just say I didnt have any trouble getting the interceptor.Jen got it when she went but the vet being an aquarist took interest himself and wanted to get any feedback with whatever I or anyone else could get him.
In my breif research, dosing regimine skews depending on who you ask. I never found 2 aquarists that used the same protocol. Some say it will kill all inverts, snails starfish, some have used 3 times the reccomended amout ,use carbon ,dont use carbon..this goes on....

So in short I'm just passing on the links,-Steve
