Long Island LFS information list

the coral prices weren't bad? Maybe they came down since the last time I was there.. I don't really remember them being too impressive, but I could be wrong.

Happy New Year!

I was heard that a new store opened in Deer Park. Could some local reefers please check it for us?

Hmm.. maybe this weekend I'll go.

rombouts, I know there's supposed to be a great fish store in Brooklyn. will be closer for you. I can't remember the name though

also, the "PETS" store in New Hyde Park is under new ownership. It really looks like it's turning around. The EE's there are really nice, stand up folks who take their time with customers. I'll be going there again, for sure.

hello there lira...

any suggestions for a quick stop near Melville? I was thinking either PetsWarehouse in Copiague (been there before) or Fishy in Bay Shore (never been).

Are there any others? I can't go farther east (though I'd like to) due to time constrictions between the church and the reception. This would be saturday the 22nd.

I'm traveling out from NJ.

Thanks in advance!

Pets warehouse is good. I just bought a cleaner shrimp there for $12 and it's been doing great in my tank. Much better than the $50 price tag I've seen at other stores. eh hehm..

The main problem I have with Pets Warehouse though is the fish.. some of them look healthy, some do not.. I'd be a bit weary of buying fish from them. The second problem is that it's not well lit. they really need to do a better job with lighting. I mean both the overall store and certain tanks.. It looks like some of them have a rotating light fixture (1 light for a number of tanks.. strange)

By low prices of corals, can you give me some examples? I am looking to get a bubble coral asap.. and don't want to spend a whole ton.

and does anyone know the hours of the store? I am thinking about driving out there tomorrow after dinner. Thanks

*EDIT*

You wouldn't happen to know their hours off hand, would you? I'm thinking about heading out there tomorrow after work, but I'd hate to drive there and see that it's closed. It's quite the trip for me.

thank you

I was attending a trade show at Javitz Center last Sunday, and stopped by a store named "Manhattan Aquariums" located at 522 West 37th St. Between 10th and 11th Ave. the first time. I was amazed by the collection of rare and beautiful corals in the store, I was also extremely impressed by the setup of a 500 & more gallons circular reef tank. The owner Joe is very knowledgeable and friendly, actually I bought quite a few corals from him at MR Swaps in the past, but I was not aware that he run such a beautiful store with so many more selections there.

If you think "Country Critter" or "Pet Warehouse" is the best store for corals in Long Island, you will not be disappointed by paying a visit of this store in the City.

The store has the following website.

http://www.nyaquariumservice.net

and their phone number is (212)594-2272.

very interesting. what were the prices like? I can't imagine they compare at all to LI prices, considering the rents on Manhattan

Not exactly prime Manhattan real estate. I'd imagine they could manage to be competitive, at least in the ballpark.

ah, but the problem is, I'm from Upstate.. where you can buy a 2000 sq foot nice house IN prime real estate for about $200,000 or less.. so really anywhere around here, the rent is incredible.

Who can compete the fish prices with Aquahut and Fishtown USA?

The store is not big, possibly 2,000 SF, but almost completely devoted to corals and salt water fish suitable for reef tanks.

For corals only, the store possibly has the most unique and wide collections comparing with the other stores I have visited in NY & NJ. Their prices are reasonable, and the owner seems willing to work with you.

Usually I have to pay over $50.- for parking when attending the trade shows in Javits Center which is couple blocks away from the store, it's helpful that the store has a small parking lot free for customers.
