Looking for a large acclimation box

I like the idea of the amazon ones but I would need 20 pair to hold up the size box I'm talking about making

The money issue doesn't bother me, I would like something that looks good and has function for years to come. If I make one I'm sure it will need to be repaired at least once or twice in the coming years

Got a few quotes back and basically every 10" will cost you 100$ so looks like I'm making one. If mine is really bad I will pay to have one made. That price is minus shipping but it's professional or at least compared to me. Have weld on-3 on the way

I made in essence a 90 gallon tank out of acrylic for a sump.
Ran it for years without a problem & yours does not need to be water tight.
Clean edges are the key to a good bond so get the material cut for you.
You could even have them cut slots in the pieces for water exchange.

No need to pay for someone to cut if you have a table saw. Just buy the plastic blade and go to town. The only place I could find one local was at Home depot. I am sure you can order one as well. I tired various other blades and nothing cuts like acrylic like it.

I bought a Diablo laminate/plastic table saw blade and it worked fine. Since the box does not have to be water tight/sealed, a little slop in the joints is no biggie. As I noted, I just use the thickened cement. Doesn't look great, but makes gluing the pieces (including eggcrate) really easy.

That was my only hesitation about cutting the acrylic

It is really no different than cutting plywood if you use the acrylic blade.I did have an issue at the beginning. The table saw I use has the "splitter" behind the blade(the piece of metal that seperates the material after it is cut) it was casue a slight bowed cut. I removed it and now all the cuts are perfect. The real problem is once you get he hang of it, it is addicting. I have made all kinds of stuff now. ATS,65 gallon custom sump, ext skimmer stand, probe holder, etc.

Im going to try my skill at the whole thing especially after the quotes I got back... I was shocked to say the least.

Yeah, think in a post on my local club melev said all the hole drilling was very time consuming and a lot of work which is reflected in the price...

i've had some serious sticker shock every time i look at anything acrylic. sumps, frag racks, acclimation boxes. i'm sure it reflects the work that goes in to it, but always catches me off guard.

i'm actually really glad you posted this. i was looking about a month ago myself for a large acclimation box. not as large as the one you're looking to construct, but it seemed all the ready made ones i found online were about 12" long or less. so i think i might be giving the DIY a shot myself as well. :)

With a quick search, I found some 18" long ... I think they were listed as reptile breeding boxes... And LOW priced

For drilling holes you want to use the old school drill bits and not the one with the pilot point. I use a miniature drill press. I drill about 30 holes in 15 minutes. Other than the acrylic itself being a bit pricey. I cannot find a reason why acrylic stuff is so high.
