Looking to buy a feeder...

I was looking to pick up a feeder. Not looking for any bells or whistles... I was looking at the EHEIM EVERYDAY FISH FEEDER. Is anyone using one or can recommend one about the same price range or less? ($40)

Thx,

Matt

I love the Eheim Everyday feeder. One of the best features, IMO, is that it will let you know when the battery is getting low. Most other feeders just quit on you.

I've been using the el cheapo Nutrimatic 2x daily for many years now. Cost about $20. That's about as inexpensive as they come.

I've done a lot of research on auto feeders and the Eheim 'FeedAir' always comes out in the top 2 or 3. It's only issue appears to be the way it's attached (velcro).

I've been using the feed air for about 3 years. Works like a charm for feeding pellets. Never tried flake. I traveled a lot for work so I counted on this as the only food source for 3-4 days a week for extended weeks.

The attaching issue is a big PITA. They're made to rest on the plastic hoods that fresh water tanks use and most of us don't have a comparable space over the top of our reef tanks. I had to build a hang on shelf out of small pvc parts and light diffuser.

My air feeder, feeds a mix of NLS and cyclopese flakes fine. I lucked out with attaching it as my corner tank has a large lip on either corner of the rim trim that the feeder sits on.

Just came back from the holidays, great growth on my purple hornets 2 new polyps and it grafted onto the rock, this was 9 days on the eheim feeder. I use small pellets and smaller pellets to feed my tank, with the eheim feeders door 1 click open it was about right for my tang and clownfish, 2 clicks was equivalent to about 50 feedings. I would highly recommend not testing over the tank get a peice of paper or tin foil to try things out (I spent about 10 minutes with a turkey baster getting excess food out...facepalm eh?). I didn't like the velcro given the bad reviews, so I just drilled a couple holes in a peice of scrap wood and zip ties minutes before I ran out the door.

Are you going to get it during this weeks BRS group buy?

If I can, I'm definitely in on the BRS group buy... Is the Everyday Auto Feeder the same as the Feed Air? They look the same, BRS has it as Everyday Auto Feeder and I don't see anyone who sells both...

I should have clarified "small" and "medium" pellets - I have been using the 2mm pellets with success, now trying the 1mm. First test is a 50/50 mix. so far looking good!

The eheim autofeeders are great. I've only used them for my freshwater tanks so far, mixing anything from 0.5mm spectrum pellets with flakes and the small carnivore pellets for my community tank, to bigger pellets and such for my goldfish. Works great, just a pain in the butt to mount.

i bought the penn plax at walmart for $12 ? it's really basic. i kinda like it for what it is. it's a battery powered unit that clamps to the tank. it dumps food twice a day(pellets or flake)`can't really set time .
