Lookout's new adventure

Peanut and butter say think you to your wife :) And thnk you for the color complement. The main rooms of the house all match with gold, green, and burnt orange. I was a little scared about the colors when I painted them but I REALLY like how it all came out.

Thanks again for the replys!.

So I forgot to comment on the mp40's there flow is awesome, you can hardly see them on the back of the tank. I am a little disappointed that the wire from the controller to the dry side does not come apart. I would like to put the controllers in my laundry room with the rest of the electronics but I would have to cut a 3+ hole in the wall. I am going to try and open the controller to see if there is a way inside to disconnect it. If not, I am going to have to mount them under the stand.

I am really getting tired of this green hair algae. Do you guys think carbon and gfo will help remove it? I also ordered a Salifert Phosphate Aquarium Test Kit. I don't have the refuge built yet but the skimmer is pulling all sorts of nasty dark green stuff out. Any other suggestions?

Have you looked into Alagefix? There is a Large thread on it. It worked for me, and I use vinegar also...= no GH---Rick

I have not looked into alagefix, but will have to read up on it. I am not a fan of name brand dosing chemicals. I have heard of people doising vinegar but how not read to much into it. Thanks for the leads, I will read up on it now.

The Alagefix thread is really long, as you get into it a ways, the consensus is that it works. On the vinegar (carbon) dosing,...find one of Randy's threads for ml/gal. quantities. I use one of BRS's ml dosing units, and one of their digital timers to turn it on/off...just add a 3 dollar gallon of white vinegar, your good to go.---Rick

I have been putting in a little vinegar a day. I just got in my po4 test kit... and it read 0... ok so now I am confused. Why the algae.. Maybe it is keeping it at 0. I am going to still run the carbon and the gfo. Trying to find a local source for the algaefix, Thanks for the info Rick, seems like a lot of people like it. The hair algae is getting long, over 3 inches in some areas.. it has to be feeding on something. Started working on my stand skin. I love the way it is coming out. I will post pictures later.

Like you , I don't like putting in commercial products of that type in my tank. I have to say it worked for me. You need to follow the directions as they are stated. May be you could give it a little help by pulling out the GAH that you can. It is good at some kill off and maintenance, but you might need to remove your water and fill the tank with Algaefix for 3" GHA

Good Luck---Rick

Once I get the algaefix, i will pull as much as I can out of the tank.
Thanks for the help/advice.

One more thing, I don't know how far you got into that thread, but a couple guys posted that the Algaefix Freshwater and Saltwater magic potions are made one and the same. I use the Freshwater, it comes in 16oz.---Rick

I had hoped to try the AlgaeFix solution but it is not approved for sale in Canada. Something that works well is a circular-type hair brush (non-metallic of course). Just give it a spin for the really long stuff, and a quick scrub to get down onto the rock. Use a fish net to scoop out broken pieces. Let the tangs have the rest.

This is an AWESOME Idea!. Thank you Dave! I will do this as soon as I get the algaefix. Sending you a pm.

Be patient...follow directions. I did read in the thread somewhere that it dissipates from the water column within 24 hours of being added. (something to keep in mind)---Rick

I missed filling a screwhole.. I still have to do the bottom trim and touch up a few spots, but I really like it. The front door is drying now.
