looks nothing like any of the pictures provided...seriously...if you down sized a feather duster 286% it would look like what i have sticking out of my rocks... i just cut the lights back on...i found like 4 more coming out of tubes...

Then they are a type of calcerous tube worm; I know what you are talking about now. Typically white heads; sometimes red. They are a sign of poor nutrient control if they are reaching plaque proportions OR it is a temporary and harmless bloom as part of a new tank and will fade within a couple of months.

I would not worry about them for now -- take a wait and see approach and if their population doesn't peak, taper off, and then crash with only some remaining, you need to seriously address your nutrient control methods.

I have a few of those that are green with pink tips. I never get the same answer twice on what they are. You are right they spread very slow. I started with 2 about a year ago and there are only 10 or so now.

Yeah, I couldn't ever get an ID either beyond "small anemone" even from Ron Shimek. I've also had some corydactis anemones show up -- they are cool, but nocturnal so you don't see them much.
