Looks like the flesh is coming off my wrasse

I'll try to get some pics later once i get my camera back.

For the last couple of days it appears that either my wrasse is getting picked on hard by a fish that I never see pick on him, or he's developing something that is taking the flesh off of him below the scales. Now the poor guy is lethargic.

This is a pretty rare and expensive wrasse that i've had for a few years now and I don't want to lose him.

Any common disease that would eat away the flesh?

two possibilities: bacteria like vibrio or protozoa like uronema. either way you're going to need to get a hospital tank setup and treat him.

i see you're in thailand, do you have any meds on hand? nitrofurazone or furan2, neomycin, kanamycin, etc.? furan2's found at a lot of lfs here and contains nitrofurazone, furazolidone, and methylene blue. there are some other "combos" you could use but i'd need to know what your med chest consists of.

Thanks. No meds on hand and not sure if any are available. Only thing I could use for a hospital tank is the holding tank that I use to pump my nsw into, but not sure how stable that water is.

Wonder if local regular vet would carry any of these meds?

BTW the fish in question is a napoleon wrasse. None of my other fish seem to have any problems.

check with your vet, i get a lot of my meds from mine :) he's probably not going to have anything like nitrofurazone available but you never know. i can get metronidazole (flagyl) from mine, it's an anti-protozoal and can be combined with neomycin or kanamycin. any koi facilities near you? they've usually got some good meds too. you may be able to get baytril or florfenicol from him, not very effective as a bath but if you can get him to eat some food with the med in it, that works great. i inject most meds into feeder shrimp (i.e., small ghost shrimp).

RIP
Had someone go to the vets office, only they got sidetracked at a lfs and bought some medicine which was from Japan and supposedly it was good for getting rid of bacteria etc. 5 minutes into the new water with this medicine and it was over.. Unfortunatey the writing is in Japanese, so who knows what it actually was.
