LRS Nano went bad -- Fish wont eat it (discovered tiny hole in seam of bag)

So when I first got my LRS the fish went nuts for it, they absolutely loved it. When I first opened it I gave it the simple nose test -- smelled like high quality **fresh** seafood.

Well one day the smell started getting a little funky, and I noticed that on the seam of the plastic bag a tiny hole opened up. I double bagged it and It has unfortunately gotten a little more stinky regardless, and now my fish will barely touch it now.

So if you start seeing lacking enthusiasm from fish come food time make sure to be careful. Could have a micro tear in the side of your bag! Air on the side of caution, throw that bag away, all that uneaten food isn't worth 1/100th of the rest of your tanks health.

Are you leaving it out of the freezer for extended periods? I bought a bag of LRS several months ago and had to double bag it because there is a 3" tear along the bottom of the bag, my fish still love it.

Nope, the only time It was ever out of the freezer was when I bought it. A few other people said they had a similar experience with their bags smelling funky and their fish not wanting it.

Hmm. I chop mine up into single serving cubes and store in a freezer container that is not air tight. Never had an issue and my current stock is at least 6 months old. Should never go bad in the freezer, maybe some freezer burn, but not rancid. Perhaps it is from the constant handling to break a piece off. This will cause partial thawing each time.

I agree. I do about 1/4 of the brick at a time and have never had issues with it going bad. My bags split every time, so I double bag it and stick it in the back of the freezer.

I cut it into daily portions and put it in a baggie.
Takes a couple weeks before its gone.
Been using for years like this, never had an issue.

If you want to talk to Larry, friend him on Facebook, he responded in like 2 minutes the one time I messaged him.
