LUNATIC FRINGE-Duel 500g tanks, 1600g total

Very nice... I saw a youtube video the other day. It reminded me of your tank setup. They made a water bridge to connect two tanks.

....reading / checking out your tank build....my women walks in and says "what are you doing..?" ah just looking at this guys huge *** tank build... (glance over to my tanks) --- "babe we need a new tank" --- haha your tanks are fine :(

--awsome build man...my 120 takes almost all my time tweeking / moving stuff around...I can only imagine how much fun you have with that thing...!

looks good man! how did you make out with the lights? I know you were having some issues, hopefully everything was resolved.

Hey man how are things going? The reef tank is banging(looking good). Just caught up on the build and want to say sorry for the mishaps. Hope the other fish are doing great. Good thing you didn't have both systems connected.

Need to subscribe to my own thread...

I was going to do that and tried to figure out how to make it work but in the end I thought cleaning the connection between the two would prove difficult. I also thought of putting a jelly fish tank above the TV between the two but shot that one done also.

You know from a work stand point I am not sure that one 500 is all that much more work than a 120....cost are a little different.... but I do like the fish room....wife and kids always know where to find me.....

Awesome setup.
The details on the cabinetry are amazing.
Good job.

Thanks..still waiting on the drawings to finish this up....

Sorry to hear about the issues with your fowlr but I'd say your reef tank is kickin butt. Great job

Reef is coming along nicely.....Fish and shrimp (8)have been doing great.

Yup....glad I went with my gut on the separate issue....fish are back in...kept them out 7 weeks....it was very painful looking at a fallow tank and then going downstairs and have all these eyes falling me around the fish room with that...dude get me back in the tank look. I should have waited longer and took a chance going back in only 7 vs 10-12.... but I am going out of town for 2 weeks and didn't feel anyone could take adequate care of them in the QT. So far so good.

Garnet and Gold. Got to love it. Go Noles!

Sat on the 48 for NC game.... Just got my tickets for the Spring game...be up your way soon!

Wao!!! Impressive build

I also had two 500Gal tanks but sold one off due to space limitations.

Saw the skimmers and I hadn't thought of putting in two of them (redundancy) I heard that you should size it for the water volume and that putting tow of them was not advised.

Do you have them separate or is the water shared in a single sump? Speaking of which I didn't see the sump.

What lighting are you using?

Besides the skimmers, what do you use for filtration?

Sorry for so many questions but I am almost finishing up my 500gal and want to learn from others.

Thanks in advance and keep up the good work

That set up looks amazing, I love the detail work on the cabinetry. How long is it from the first tank, past the tv to the end of the other tank?

Some people have used two and loved them....so match matters on your setup....I didn't do it but there are certainly some things you can do including running one dry and one wet at the same time.

They were done separate and it was a great great decision as I would have lost both tanks after a bad odenium breakout in the FOWLR

What lighting are you using?

LED's all the way.

I use GFO.....about to add deep sand beds to both in the sumps.

There is more detail an all of the above in the thread

Thanks in advance and keep up the good work

The entire setup is exactly 20' long.

I had the cabinet guy over on Friday as we are working on the hoods. WOW it is a TON more engineering than either of us thought. I am going to use linear actuators to lift the hoods up and down. There will also be cabinets that go to the roof in the middle where the TV is... Trying to lift 300 pound lids from the back.....have them with close to perfect movement to not interfere with the TV cabinets....have side access behind the TVs..... All of this with trying to build the lids with structural integrity so that they can withstand being moved up and down over time.....
