Lunchbucket's 48"x48"x20" Reef

I was joking. I think the way you have it is fine. 800 watts of MH should do you fine as it is. And that is directly over the tank openings with good reflectors.

How about some pics of the room where its going and the spot where its going to be in the wall? I really like this thread... in the future I want to get a 48"x48"x30" tank that has starfire glass in 2 panels that are touching and a coast to coast overflow on one of the other 2 panels. The idea is it will be placed on a corner with one starfire panel facing each way. We want to make a central pillar that will be the majority of rockwork in the tank and plumb all of our returns through the bottom under the rockwork so that there is nothing visable.

Anyways keep us updated... this is my inspiration for just how awesome our tank could look. :D

I'll get pics when I get the caps and move it into place, hopefully in a day or 2.

Sounds like an awesome tank. I'm gonna have to do some interesting rock work to get my overflow and CL intake and out lets covered

yeah i am still touchy about the width on my tank too. hhahaahah I figure I didn't want a tiny office or a tiny formal living so 30 would do for the width. Damm I could just shoot myself now...

i wish I didn't move my stuff into my tank to finish my floor before I did all my rock formations first. Now I want to make a pillar in the middle like I origanlly planned but it is going to be difficult since the tank is already up and running.

Great job eric on taking your time and planning everything out. It is already starting to show all your hard work...

Thanks. Seems like things have been slow lately w/ no progress. Just waiting on the caps (I'm calling them today). Then move and level the stand and get the foam and ply in place. Then I can start plumbing which will be a HUGE step forward IMO. Good thing is I have 99% of my stuff. I say 99% because there is always something you forget and need to make a trip or two to the hardware store.

Still need to find what glue to use on the spa flex. I know jnarowe told me but I forgot...I'll have to search the thread again :D

Got the caps yesterday but was busy mowing the lawn before it rained (it's been raining all day today :( ) and putting my new windows for our house in our garage to store till we work on them (next week I hope).

I got the caps done tonight
stand_caps.JPG

I put a bead of the silicone that I used for the sump baffles on the inside rim of the caps. I then tapped them in (PITA it was as you have to get them perfect and weld was in the inside on some of the tubes) so I had silicone ooze out. I wiped the outside w/ my finger. Should have a nice seal on the caps so that no water can get inside the stand w/ the silicone seal.

It will be busy weekend! Have a dog rescue thing I have to be at 12-5 then tank plumbing I hope

jnarowe - So what you are saying is that I can just us regular all purpose PVC cement?

Lunchbucket

I've never had a problem using oatey's PVC primer, followed up by clear oatey's glue.

I have never had a problem skipping the primer and just using the regular clear cement. But, if you have to make a run to HD, then you might as well pick up the "correct" stuff. :)

I have to make a run to Lowes tomorrow or Menards. What do you mean grab the "correct stuff", you mean the spaflex stuff? I should just use the clear primer and clear (gold can) glue

Lunchbucket

the stuff made for spaflex...you're going there anyway right? We cannot get clear primer here locally and I hate the purple crap. Takes me a long time to build when I have to wipe each joint.

I'll look jnarowe

eric - thanks...I REALLY like it now :D

Well got the pieces of ply down in the sump area.

Here are the blocks I used to support the middle w/ one side done already

Eric, I thought I included the rubber mat with that Sequence pump.

It looks good. I'd only use the spa-flex specific cement on spa-flex. The regular cement works fine, but it dries rigid. In most applications, this is fine.

The spa-flex cement is somewhat flexible when it dries, ala rubber cement. It reduces the stress and strain on the actual joint. This extremely useful in applications where you need to move the spa-flex often, or if there is a sharp bend. Plus it dries crystal clear. :)
