I am also not a big fan of the brace around the top. Greg really overbuilt the tank, and it is kinda a PITA to have to reach around to get to the front glass. Moving it, however, would be a breeze compared to glass.

However, how often do you move a tank in the first place? It might be a pain, but once it is there, it is there. You can always get some new friends once you get your current ones mad at you for making them help move the tank.

I guess I was thinking about the fact that he has a planned move in the future. :)

It's a good thing people come and go in our fish club. Get the newbies who don't know what they're getting into, all willing to help out. Then they go and break their backs and you never hear from them again.

Skip the 90 and get the 120 I'm serious. You will kick yourself later if you don't.

IMO Glass man!!!!

otolith - yeah it is "my sized" 90'ish gallon. i wanted 48L and 24" wide..so it's like a 120 but shorter :D i don't believe that i abuse my equipment. i feel i keep my stuff in order pretty well. i think i would be EXTRA careful w/ an acrylic tank...but i'm sure that is what everyone says though :D

i'm not a big fan of the center brace either. ALL of my tanks (excluding the 55gal) have been open top (5ga, 10ga, 20gal, 58gal)..but i really don't think it will be that big of an issue. would be nice i have something to attach my front CL ports through :D i'll only ever use a cleaning magnet so reaching around shouldn't be an issue...never really do that now...except when i siphon the sand

melev - well i will be moving out of this apt into a house...where i'm SURE we will stay put for 5-10yrs at the minimum. i'm not worried about the weight of moving the tank...more of the breaking it or it blowing a seam :( :(

arconom - 120 is only 4" taller...not an important issue for me. i like shorter tanks. my 58 is 20" and i love it. i would like to keep this tank as small as possible w/ 4ft in length...and i wanted 24" of depth. i'm thinking smaller is better to move and easier at the moment until i get set up in a house SOMEDAY

well my wife is putting the brakes on an upgrade after she heard that she couldnt' prolly put a yellow tang in there :( this is the main reason she wants to upgrade...to add more fish and ones that SHE likes. we will see what happens i guess :( on the bright side it would save me a LOT of work and decisions :D

My recommendation: upgrade when you move!! It would make things much easier IMHO. You could have the new tank already set up at the new house, before you even break down the old tank.

My plan is to stick with the 58g until my wife and I build a house, then I'm a puttin in a built in square 600g! She's already sold on it. She said she wants it to be big enough that I have to put on scuba gear to clean it, LOL.

So basically, my goal is to learn everything I can on the 58g, for when I put together my dream system.

I said that too. :)

I'm now looking at scratches daily...well, when I look at my tank anyway. I put a ton of them in my tank when I scraped some coralline off that was pretty much obstructing the view into the tank. Of course a couple months later all the coralline went away. Still confused about that one.

I'm somewhat torn as to weather I go with acrylic with the upgrade, or glass, but I don't have to decide that any time soon. :)

zmalexander - i hear you..i wanted to wait too but if she wants to upgrade how can i say no ??? i'll prolly just live w/ the 58gal for now. it is WAY easier to move into a tank then move a tank. i did that from my 20H to my 58gal...then i had to move my 58gal :(

LOL

Lunchbucket

You know, zmalexander is wise beyond his 12 posts. :) You may be able to go BIGGER than the 90g you're thinking about now. :D

LOL, Delayed gratification definitely sucks. I won't have my dream tank for another 8 years. (I took the military medical school scholarship, and now I have two more years of residency followed by the 6 I owe the Navy, so 8 more years before we finally settle down). And I'll be moving that 58g WAY more than I should!

OK, quick question. Is there any way to turn off the "email you whenever there is a new post to your subscribed thread" option. You guys are flooding my email!!!

i thought it ONLY sent an email if you checked your email and there was a new reply.

so if 10people replied and you didn't cfheck you mail you would only have 1 email

you can unsubscribe to this thread...but why would you want to do that??

Lunchbucket

LOL! Definitely don't want to unsubscribe. The problem is that I check it like every few hours. So basically every time someone replies, I'm getting an e-mail :)

That's it boys. Zac has requested that we no longer add to this thread, because he's getting too much email.

Thank you for your cooperation.
