GGRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

:mad2: :mad2: :uzi: :uzi: :furious: :furious: FLIPPING HYDRYOIDS!! I HATE THEM!!! DIE HYDROIDS DIE!!

no idea how to get rid of them

Well, the tank is filled with fresh water for plumbing test. Got the SCWD hooked up. The flow out of the two main lines is really good, and the SCWD is quiet. Me Likey! Got the Durso in and the overflow is quiet. The sump aint too bad either.

However, when I dug out my old maxijet power heads, which I thought were 900s, I found I only had a 500 and a 750. I modified them like Marc suggested, but I just don't feel like I'm getting enough extra flow, beyond the two main lines.

Right now I have a Mag 9.5 on the SCWD switching between to Loc-line returns, with I figure about 550gph flow, switching about every 6 or 7 seconds.

I'm kind of leaning towards taking the SCWD off the main return, and putting it on a closed loop. (I'd have to buy another pump)

Suggestions?? Should I get a larger return pump, and use the Mag 9 for a closed loop? Get bigger power heads?

Nice pictures but i don't see a picture with your kole tang.

I have hydroids in my nano tank and i hate it. I have no idea on getting rid of it.

z - i would ditch the SCWD...i hate these things. and i will bet you money that you are not getting 550 out of your pump w/ the scwd on it. i would NOT use a mag for a closed loop. they seal like crap. get a good panworld pump..they are nice

crizq - thanks. yeah the yellow eye is impossible to get a pic of. i HATE HYDROIDS!! the good thing is that my corals are unaffected by them. they actually push the hydroids back as they base out. i thought hydroids were supposed to have a nasty sting?

Lunchbucket

SCWD hater. ;) What happened to your liking it?

Zac, it is better on a closed loop than a return. I tried it both ways and prefered the closed loop much more.

melev - that was before i knew better. kind of like when everone like rio's. they cut the flow too much and break to easy! www.oceansmotions.com are WAY better. quality built, don't break, don't limit flow, and Pauls CS ROCKS!

Lunchbucket

Actually, I bought the mag from a guy using it as an external pump. And it hasn't leaked yet.

So far I really like the SCWD. How much did you pay for your OceanMotion device?

Travis - google huh...you just search for algae?? any help on what to look for :D

Just do a search on the species you are looking for and you will get more information and pics than you can handle. I used to have a couple good algae ID databases in my bookmarks but must have accidentally deleted them somewhere along the way.

Oh yeah, forgot to ask. What pump would you recommend for my return pump (58g). It's in our bedroom, so quiet is important.

-Z

If I may add my $0.02, Z, I use an extrernal pump, a Velocity T2, 600 gph on my 58g. Uses a bit of power, but super quiet. I had two. (other is on my 75). One is over 5yrs old.

HTH

z - well i have a mag 950...ONLY because i can't fit an external. i HATE MAGS! they transfer too much heat and don't work that well. i have so much stuff crammed in my stand i can't fit a external pump. guess i should have moved my CL pump up on the stand and put an external return pump where the CL pump is currently sitting.

check out that website for OM pricing. they are a lot more then an SCWD...but once you run it you will know why..also paul replaces about anything you need cheaply. you'll go through MANY SCWD's before your OM unit would crap out...IF if EVER does. if it does all parts are preplacable. heck someones just quite and it was a 9buck piece to fit it cheap IMO

Lunchbucket

I ahve a 58 gallon tank also and run a OM 4 way unit. Mine just had an issue. Paul was quite happy to replace the malfunctioning part free of charge, or offered me a reduction in the cost in an upgrade...I took the upgrade.
Got nothing but great things to say about Paul and OM in general.
Great product, well built and awesome customer service.

Question Lunchbucket:

Why run the 4-way on a closed circuit, and a separate return pump. Why didn't you just put the 4-way on your return?

-Zac

Chris - good boy (refering to your avitar :D )

i have a LOT of flow going through my closed loop...more then my return pump. that way i don't have to max my overflow or push it . also i only have a 10gal sump...so i want to keep the micro bubbles from getting to the return pump.

CL's are for lots of flow....returns are for not much.

Lunchbucket

I see:)

I'm thinking about switching to the OM 4-way. From the searches I've read, everyone who has one loves it.

So..........I'm gonna sell my SCWD. It's almost brand new, only run in fresh water for a few days. Just $300.00 (buyer pays shipping). It's definitely worth it!! (Buyer pays shipping insurance). Just think of the money you'll save on electricity alone!!! Let alone having to buy a chiller to reduce the heat from that Mag 9!! Plus, you'll never have to perform that pesky pump maintainence. I'll take paypal (buyer pays paypal fees). Let me know! (Buyer pays for my RC membership for 1 year).

:D :D :D
Seriously though, I think I'll run off the SCWD while I finish getting the tank setup and running, and then probably upgrade to the OM 4-way later. Sounds like it's worth it!
