yeah really sucks about the PM :( :( guess i know where to get one

yeah it could be worse. only reason she wants the bigger tank is that she wants some fish that SHE wants.

i'm thinking
48x24x20 - about 90gal or so

not too much bigger as i still live in an apartment and will have to move someday...but my wife said we aren't moving again unless it is to a house we buy.

got the quote from bob...not bad at ALL!! i'll have to talk it over w/ her and see what she says

Lunch how is the calcium reactor doing? I ended up with one from aquaticsystemdesigns.com because they are custom making one at no additional charge to fit in my stand.

As for the new tank. I am waiting until I own a house and then getting a 150(48x24x24) and building it in for the long haul. A 90 is still moveable though and you have all the equiptment.
 
arconom - i got them from "locals" (Travis, otolith, JG24, Energy) and i got a shipment from Kevinpo. Travis has more then enough cool corals to keep me wanting his...so that is where the next ones will come from i'm sure :D i have some really great guys that i know. although most of them are 4hrs away.

JVHam - reactor is ROCKING!! i'm running it at .02L/min and it is keeping up easily. this is about the slowest that i can run it really :D hope the reactor works out for you. Bob (JG24) @ www.reefmania.net would have worked w/ you to get it into your sump. heck we emailed about 50times figuring out if this would fit in my stand. i had to cut mine down about 5"!!! yeah they are taller stock! alson we cut the baseplate in 1/2 so i could have the pump be on 1/2 and the reactor chamber be on 1/2. this allowed me to fit the beast in my stand. w/out doing that it would be a no go!

yeah 90 is movable but not a fun task but what is 40more gallons :D my wife even suggested that we move the TV down another foot to fit the new tank (if we got one) in the right spot...GOD I LOVE THIS WOMAN!! BUT she doesn't know what the upgrade will cost..the the cost of the sump and tank...possibly

just did a 15gal water change and picked the hair algae out of ther...hate that stuff :( hope now that it is mowed down the tang and snails will keep it at bay. also i'm changing my phosban next week..that should help

i know Travis has said that his would do this when he removed them from the tank to pull algae and do a water change. i ONLY did a water change.

guess they thought the water was too clean and needed to be dirtied proptly :(

my fish (except the tang) have decided to eat as much as they can...the chunks anyhow.

hope they don't spawn much...i don't want a dirty tank. i guess the corals will eat well adn the skimme will kick in too

Sure will. And you may end up with clam babies everyone one day. :D j/k

It might be good to have water change water handy, but not necessarily a requirement. Now if they spawned for an hour solid, you've have issues.
 
they are not very long lived spawners. guess they petered out quickly!! i'm glad i didn't want to have to worry about the "stuff" building up in the water...really didn't squirt much at all IMO.

so i am not going to do a water change. i added new carbon and am not going to feed today. i'll let the skimmer do its job.

not enough to cause a problem IMO

LOL - they were fed on Thanksgiving day. i have gotten in the habbit of feeding every other day...guess they will have to wait till tomorrow since the clams dirtied my water right after a water change :(

got an email and w/ 1/2" acrylic for a 48"x24"x20" tank i will need a center brace :( not my choice but if i went w/ 3/4" acrylic the price will jump considerably. the top would have cut outs w/ bracing around all four edges and in the middle..and by the overflow. would look nice and will still give access to the tank. i would mount a halide over each hole...shouldn't cause problems w/ the center brace. not sure what to do...if i should buck up for 3/4" or just stick w/ 1/2"...any oppinions??

ok my wife is making me ask this. IF we get a 48x24x20 tank...could we have our yellow eye kole tang AND a yellow tang? she want a yellow tang but i told her i didn't know w/ that small of a tank

this would be one of the MAIN reasons for a bigger tank...so she could have some fish she wants.

anyone help me out?

I don't think I'd do two tangs in a 90. :(

Heck, if you're going to a 4 ft tank, I really like the 48x24x24 120g tanks. Would suck to move, but I think _maybe_ then you could get away with 2 tangs, although it would still be pushing it. Hopefully wouldn't be that terribly bad to move, either. :)
 
i thought two was pushing it. but WHY would the 4" in height (24" compared to my planned 20") make it ok for two? really isn't much difference

i don't think i will do it but she HAD to ask :D

i don't think a 90 would be that much different to move. 1ft longer and 6" wider. more buckets and stuff...but the equipemtn would be exactly the same :D

Eric, you can get a 48 x 24 x 24 with no center brace out of glass. I've seen them in person and those are sweet tanks with good depth.

If you want both tangs, you can do it if you add them at the same time, because they have the similar body shape and if added one after the other they may fight.

glas...not sure i want to do glass...too scared of it blowing out :D plus i know a local acrylic guy so i could got pic it up. also never had an acyrlic tank before...so i'm curious to get one...then i can test it out before i get my big reef and big FOWLR someday

I've never had an acrylic tank, other than Casper's Pico and the frag tank from Next Wave, and I clean those with acrylic or credit cards only. The scratching issue and the problem of removing coralline is what scared me away from an acrylic display tank, and I have a feeling that will never change for me.

So what did you think of the pictures?

this is the templete from the acylic guy for a 120 (48x24x24) my 90'ish would be 48x24x20 so same sized top as the pic

i'm not sold on teh whole acrylic idea...i've ONLY had glass...i'm just afraid i'll scratch the daylights out of it.

I thought you were going with a 90, which is, now that I did the math, a little smaller than what you posted. I was thinking of the depth you'd get with a 120 that you wouldn't get with a 90. :doh:

I have mixed thoughts about if I would go with another acrylic tank. I do like my tank and the fact that it only took two people to carry it into my basement, but it does scratch pretty easy. If you're really good about keeping things in order, than acrylic isn't bad. If you're like me and tend to abuse your equipment, then it kind of sucks...don't know what I'll do when it comes to the next house. Hopefully won't have to worry about that for a few years. :)
