Eric, your corals are doing great. Lots of nice color.

We've been talking about hydroids on our club board recently. Some guys are trying to track down Keyhole Limpets that seemingly eat them. You might check into that, if you can find some locally. If you don't know what they look like, there is one on my ID page.

Add some more snails to your tank from the LFS. Hungry snails will mow down a lot of nuisance algae for you. The ones you have are just too lazy.

melev - i've heard of keyhole limpets but i have never been able to find them locallly (go figure) and havent' really looked for a good online place. you know of any??? or anyone ordering some that i could get in on an order?

i am in need some some more snails. i added about 6 a week ago to tide me over till i saw my buddies new system that he is selling out of. the algae i have though is the dreaded byropsis...but i am beating it pretty good. in the last 2wks it has really turned south. i do agree...need snails. i couldnt' talk the wife into driving 60miles to go get some yesterday :(

anyone used Purigen?? i have a little brypsis that i am winning the battle on and i have heard people using a lot of purigen for about 2 days and then removing it. the bryopsis bleaches then their tang eats it. works everytime for them...anyone used this stuff??

the guy said to remove it after 2days or so...especially if you see your SPS lightening as it will bleach your SPS if left in too long

I found Keyhole Limpets at my LFS down the street. My tank has lots of babies but they never grow up like the 2" one I had for a long time in my 29g. One day it died. :(

Perhaps your LFS can order you some via special request.

I have seen blonde naso tangs tear that bubble alge up. Have your geen emeralds ever destroyed anything good in your tank? I have bubble alge issues too and I've been plucking it out.

Really nice tank BTW. I haven't tried any SPS yet.

Hi Lunch

Great pics and very, very nice corals. You've got some serious growth going on. The colors are outstanding.

Keep up the great work.

Beautiful corals Lunch! I am interested in the purigen. I have a friend who has been battling bryopsys for over a year, and not really making any headway.

elephen - thanks man. it is my new Canon S2IS...it rocks :D

melev - hmm...i'll check but most of the time they don't know thier heads from their butts...and remember i am up in the boonies of South Dakota...we dont' get much here :(

Victoly - lucky you can have a naso. in a 58gal...that ain't happening. i have had tons of emeralds and have NEVER had a problem...keeping my fingers crossed. easy to get out if they do cause problems

Ewan - pics will get better as time goes and learning and so will the corals ;) growth has been very good lately. really settling in and taking off. just hope they will keep going and i don't have any set backs. i'm loveing the colors too. thanks for the very kind words buddy

biggt 2k1- thanks! well i got the info in a bryopsis post less then 1 month ago. i should have some here by friday so we will see if it helps a lot. changing my po4 media knocked it down a LOT

elphen - i run 1x400w 20K XM for 10hrs and 1x400w 10K Ushio (at change in march it will be a XM10k) for 2hrs (7hrs-9hrs after the 20k starts).

only actinic is a 1x13w PC that runs for 1 hr before the halides and one hour after. i believe my color is from lot nutrients and lots of light on my 58gal

Oh ya, we found a new place right across the street. The move date is Feb 4, so hopefully i'll get the tank up and running soon!!

Question:

Just got an email from BRI Aquatics. They said the custom stand and canopy are ready except for the fan holes in the canopy. I'm planning on mounting 2 120mm icecap fans.

They want to know where to cut the holes. I'm planning on having at least one side directed at the water surface. I was thinking maybe right in the middle of the sides, giving me the most flexibility.

However, BRI recommends cutting them on the rear/top of the canopy, thus reducing "light beams" coming out of the sides of the canopy.

Any Suggestions?

if they could mount the fans at the top of the canopy and angle them downward to point at the water. that way you get te most out of your fans.
i had mine mounted at the top of the canopy and it was not very good at keeping the tank cool.
