I'm subscribing to this thread, as I'm also considering a good amount of lyretail anthias for my 180g. Good to know they're not as picky in terms of eating.
I bought 1 male and 3 females. The male died in QT after about 6 weeks, developed a LARGE hole in his forehead and the females killed him. The females have been in my DT for almost a year now and one has started the change. They eat well. Never had a problem with that!
I have admired these fish for awhile now. Are they really social, if I bought only 1 would it suffer? And I read on LA that they need to be in a 120g, I have a 75g. Opinions?
Mine seem to hang out on their own, even follow each other around. Usually away from the rest of my fish. They are in a 120 but i dont see why they wouldnt be ok in a 75. However i dont know how many other fish you would want to them in with.
I have 12 in a 180. During the day they don't shoal or school but in the evenings when the actinics are on they do. They will get a tight ball and swim in circles around the tank. They also tend to hangout at my cleaner shrimps cleaning station.
I wish I had gotten Barletts but hindsight is always 20/20.
