120 days!
120 days!
My larva molted today,at 120 days.It keeps growing and is now huge, over 20mm.It has to be very close of meta.
According to pleopod development it is in the last larval stage since at least 30 days.So is it stage bumping (marking time)?
Perhaps not,and the natural evolution of this particular giant larva undergoes very subtle changes, hard to see,so that "sub-stages"or "micro stages"occur with each larval molt.
Having just one larva I won´t risk it with more microscopic examinations, just some full body portraits. But I will try to document any changes by inspecting the exuvia (molts).
But I am seeing some changes in the colour markings.Red spots in the tail exopods became double and then like a strip.Tiny red marks appeared in the legs joints.and now some red shows around the eyes.
I can´t hide that I have strong hopes that this larva will make it,and that I will be very disappointed if it doesn´t.See how 120 days of working with it hang from a string, that´s the evil in this game!
Hydroids show again and again will move it to a clean tank.So far this is working.
