120 days!
My larva molted today,at 120 days.It keeps growing and is now huge,over 20mm.It has to be very close of meta.
According to pleopod development it is in the last larval stage since at least 30 days.So is it stage bumping (marking time)?
Perhaps not,and the natural evolution of this particular giant larva undergoes very subtle changes,hard to see,so that "sub-stages"or "micro stages"occur with each larval molt.
Having just one larva I won´t risk it with more microscopic examinations,just some full body portraits.But I will try to document any changes by inspecting the exuvia (molts).
But I am seeing some changes in the colour markings.Red spots in the tail exopods became double and then like a strip.Tiny red marks appeared in the legs joints.and now some red shows around the eyes.
I can´t hide that I have strong hopes that this larva will make it,and that I will be very disappointed if it doesn´t.See how 120 days of working with it hang from a string,that´s the evil in this game!
Hydroids show again and again will move it to a clean tank.So far this is working.

Thanks,Yes,I always get some sarcastic comments from lfs owners.They can only understand profitable numbers.
But if I can put one soldier on top of the mountain,1000 can follow,right?
This is the sort of things hobbyists do while commercial breeders would never mess with!

That is about as deep as I go.
I hope to be following in your footsteps with your 254 peppies and then onto Redlines.....

It molted today at 125 days.Molts every 5 days.Keeps growing,it´s kinda alien monster by now (scary
).And healthy and lively.Expect it will settle any time Will post pics...

Would it be possible for somthing like this to work as a tank to lessen the numbers of larva that are together in a single area.

Gosh!I am now a member of the very exclusive (less than 10 members)club of L.amboinensis breeders!My giant larva settled today into a huge post-larva (PL).:celeb1:
The PL is so big that after next molt,when it becomes a juvenile,it will be a commercial size shrimp.So a six month growing time from hatch to sale,is not really that bad,it is about the same time clowns need.
The shrimp is gorgeous (to my eyes at least ).Colour marks are very different to those of the adults.It swings sideways like peppermint shrimps.
Fulfillment feels great!:beer: If this was an Oscar and I had to produce a boring thanking speech,I would have to mention many people,many of this Forum, who helped with advises and copies of scientific articles.But I have to give special thanks to Andy R.(Spawner)for his continuous assistance and substantial practical support.
Next step is to raise lots of them and watch more carefully those last stages.

Congratluations Luis, thats quite an achievement well worth the wait im sure. This has been an excellent thread, been checking to daily to see if this guy would settle. Congratulations

Luis, I'll admit, I was touch and go with this thread. I peeked in only rarely. To hear this great accomplishment is WONDERFUL. Maybe I should pay more attention, eh?
